    Distracted. Part 1Pastor David King

    Trials

(James 1:1-2) 1 James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ,

To the twelve tribes scattered among the nations: Greetings. 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,

(Proverbs 17:3) The crucible for silver and the furnace for gold, but the Lord tests the heart.

(James 1:2-3) 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.

(James 1:4) Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

(Romans 5:3-4) 3 Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, character; and character, hope.

(1 Peter 1 6-7) 6 In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. 7 These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith—of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire—may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.

(James 1:5) If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.

(James 1:6-7) 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

    (James 1:13) When tempted, no one should say, “God is tempting me.” For God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does he tempt anyone;

(James 1:14-15) 14 but each person is tempted when they are dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed. 15 Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and sin, when it is full-grown, gives birth to death.

(James 1:16-17) 16 Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers and sisters. 17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

(James 1:18 NLT) He gave us our new lives through the truth of His Word only because He wanted to. We are the first children in His family.

(2 Corinthians 5:20 NLT) So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!”

(1 Corinthians 3:6) I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God has been making it grow.

(1 Corinthians 9:19-23) 19 Though I am free and belong to no one, I have made myself a slave to everyone, to win as many as possible. 20 To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. 21 To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. 22 To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some. 23 I do all this for the sake of the gospel, that I may share in its blessings.

(1 Peter 3:15) But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect,

My People. Part 3 – Relationships Dr. Christopher Stotts

(Ecclesiastes 4:8) There was a man all alone; he had neither son nor brother. There was no end to his toil, yet his eyes were not content with his wealth.

    What’s our excuses…

    · Naivety

    · Temperament

    · Fear

    · Past Experiences

    · Busyness

(1 Peter 4:7-11) The end of all things is near. Therefore be clear-minded and self-controlled so that you can pray. Above all…. love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, he should do it as one speaking the very words of God. If anyone serves, he should do it with the strength that God provides….so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ."

    1. To NURTURE my IMPORTANT relationships.

(Colossians 2:19) …the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

    2. To RESTORE my BROKEN relationships.

(Romans 12:17-18) Do not repay anyone evil for evil. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.

    3. To SEVER any HARMFUL relationships

(Proverbs 27:19) A mirror reflects a man’s face but what he is really like is shown by the kind of friends he chooses.

(Proverbs 13:20) He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

    4. To INITIATE some MEANINGFUL relationships.

(Hebrews 10:25) Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another--and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

(Proverbs 18:24) One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

(Proverbs 17:17) A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.

(Proverbs 27:6) Wounds from a friend can be trusted, but an enemy multiplies kisses.

(Proverbs 27:9) Perfume and incense bring joy to the heart, and the pleasantness of a friend springs from their heartfelt advice.

(Proverbs 27:17) As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.

(Ephesians 4:16 NLT) He makes the whole body fit together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.

(1 Peter 4:10 NIV) Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.

(Psalms 37:5) Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him and he will do this:

(Colossians 3:23) Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters,

(Matthew 5:14-16) 14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.

(Matthew 5:13) You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
(Hebrews 10:23-25) 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
(James 5:16) Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

(2 Corinthians 5:20) We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.

Summer Series. Part 3 Finding Strength in the Stress Casey Dowell

    It’s always something.

    Pressure > Capacity = stress

(Philippians 4:13 NKJV) I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

    1. Shock

(Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 NIV) Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.

    2. Sorrow

(Isaiah 53:3 KJV) He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief.

(Psalm 61:1-2 NKJV) Hear my cry, O God; attend to my prayer. From the end of the earth I will cry to You. When my heart is overwhelmed; lead me to the rock that is higher than I.

    3. Struggle

(Jeremiah 20:18 TEV) “Why was I born? Was it only to have trouble and sorrow, to end my life in disgrace?”

(Matthew 27:46 NIV) “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”

(Hebrews 11:35-40 NIV) There were others who were tortured… persecuted and mistreated—the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, living in caves and in holes in the ground. These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised, since God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect.

    4. Surrender

(Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV) Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.

    Serenity Prayer

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time, enjoying one moment at a time; accepting hardship as a pathway to peace; taking, as Jesus did, this sinful world as it is, not as I would have it; trusting that You will make all things right if I surrender to Your will; so that I may be reasonably happy in this life and supremely happy with You forever in the next. Amen.

    5. _________________

(Romans 5:3-4 NIV) Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.

    6. _____________

(2 Corinthians 1:3-4 NIV) Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.

There is always __________ in my ___________.

I can run to God and others.

    I can worship.

    I can focus on eternity.

    I can trust God.

I can learn from life’s situations.

I can use my pain to help others.
