  • We boogie and we woogie to ELF by ELF (1972), the band that got the late, great RONNIE JAMES DIO discovered by RITCHIE BLACKMORE and started RAINBOW!

Joining us today is Adam Peterson, Steve's former Valley of Shadows bandmate and current mainman of Wasabibobbi. Head over to Steve's website to check out our stoner rock EPs Volume I & Volume II.

Check out the album here. Pause after I'm Coming Back for You at 7:12 if you're following along with us.

Elf was an American rock band founded in 1967 by singer and bassist Ronnie James Dio, keyboardist Doug Thaler, drummer Gary Driscoll, and guitarists Nick Pantas, and David Feinstein (Dio's cousin). The band was originally called the Electric Elves, but was shortened to the Elves in 1968 and finally Elf in 1972. Elf disbanded in 1975 after recording three albums and after most of the lineup had been absorbed into the newly formed Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow. -Wikipedia

Elf is the first studio album by Ronnie James Dio's blues rock band called Elf. Produced by Ian Paice and Roger Glover of Deep Purple, the record was released in 1972.

On this album, Dio is credited by his birth name, Ronald Padavona. Though Dio had used "Padavona" for songwriting credits on earlier singles, Dio explained in an interview in 1994 that he used his birth name on this album as a tribute to his parents so that they could see their family name on an album at least once.

After this album, Steve Edwards replaced David Feinstein on guitar, and Craig Gruber took over bass duties, leaving Dio solely as the lead singer. This future lineup, minus Edwards, became the first incarnation of Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow when guitarist Ritchie Blackmore formed it after leaving Deep Purple.

  • 12 | A rocker guy & a metal guy hear the album with ROCK LOBSTER on it for the first time, we listen to THE B-52'S by THE B-52'S!
    Jul 21 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

The B-52's is the debut album by American New wave band the B-52's. The kitschy lyrics and mood, and the hook-laden harmonies helped establish a fanbase for the band, who went on to release several chart-topping singles. The album cover was designed by Tony Wright.

The B-52's peaked at number 59 on the Billboard 200, and "Rock Lobster" reached number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2003, the television network VH1 named The B-52's the 99th greatest album of all time. Shortly before his death, John Lennon said he enjoyed the album. - Wikipedia

Steve shows Dave & his ex-VALLEY OF SHADOWS bandmate Clayton Goliath Pace an album from BRUCE DICKINSON's pre-IRON MAIDEN band SAMSON.

Shock Tactics is the third studio album by British heavy metal band Samson, released in 1981. Jul 7 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

Dave and Andrew show metal dude Steve SPARKS | No. 1 in Heaven, a DISCO, ROCK, ELECTRONICA, SYNTH-POP album released in 1979 and produced by legendary electronic producer GIORGIO MORODER.

Nº 1 in Heaven is the eighth studio album by American rock band Sparks. Recorded with Italian disco producer Giorgio Moroder, the album marked a change of musical direction for the group and became influential on later synth-pop bands.[citation needed]

Released in March 1979 by Virgin Records (with initial copies on colored vinyl) and later licensed to Elektra Records in the US, Nº 1 in Heaven renewed interest in the band after disappointing sales of the preceding albums Big Beat (1976) and Introducing Sparks (1977). It is the band's only album on Elektra, the fourth label that the band was signed to in the US. - Wikipedia

  • #6 | Dave brings in a highly influential electronic album FROM 1983, THE CRACKDOWN by English group CABARET VOLTAIRE
    Jun 9 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

Dave brings in THE CRACKDOWN by CARBARET VOLTAIRE, and English electronic group that made really cool and experimental electronic music and were a very early pioneer in ELECTRONIC, DANCE, INDUSTRIAL, POST-PUNK, ACID HOUSE, & TECHNO. Additionally, we discuss how it features some parallels to some of the emerging hip-hop artists coming up across the pond at the same time, that we assume is coincidental.

This album was released in 1983 and is the first album that followed CHRIS WATSON's departure from the group, which results in an album that was somewhat more conventional that their past released, but still cold, disturbing, and alienating.
