• The One Where Pip Brown & I Talk About Spiritual Awakenings, Man
    Jul 30 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

    In this week's episode, former guest, Pip Brown, is back on the podcast for a conversation about spiritual awakenings, among many other things! Pip owns her own dog walking business on the Isle of Wight, and has a podcast called One Single Woman. She is also happily single and childfree, a listener to the podcast, and a member of my Thrive Solo membership!

    Pip is passionate about letting other single women know that it is ok to be alone, and has a social media journal on Instagram, @onesinglewoman, where she aims to empower other women like herself to embrace their single, childfree lives.

    Topics that we cover are:

    • how both of us started on a path of ‘spiritual awakening’;
    • what having a spiritual awakening means to me;
    • shedding the layers that society has put upon us, and how uncomfortable that can be;
    • how Pip’s ‘awakening’ was very much connected to her being single;
    • how confused she was about why she didn’t want to settle down;
    • how Pip became obsessed with the world of the childfree;
    • how she felt as though she’d been asleep her whole life;
    • why she decided to start a podcast and how terrifying it was to begin with;
    • the bizarre emotions that Pip and I have both felt during the course of our journeys;
    • social conditioning, the prescribed path, and how impactful it is;
    • how our thoughts are profoundly impacting our lives;
    • being the creators of our own lives;
    • the self-limiting beliefs that society puts upon us without us realising;
    • how we are so much more capable than we think we are;
    • how Pip wasted so much time feeling like she didn’t fit in;
    • the impact the overpopulation is having on our planet;
    • the idea that we all have a 'calling';
    • the huge importance of being aware of our thoughts, as well as the frequency we’re putting out;
    • letting go of victimhood, and taking responsibility of our lives;
    • how I had to set aside my ego in order to start my podcast;
    • learning to get comfortable being uncomfortable;
    • how our society is far too concerned with image, and things that aren’t important;
    • the importance of accepting ourselves exactly as we are.

  • The One About The Singles Bill Of Rights - Part 2
    Jul 23 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

    In this week’s episode, Madeleine Crown & Christina Campbell are back on the podcast for Part 2 of our conversation about The Singles Bill Of Rights.

    The Singles Bill of Rights (SBR) is a policy proposal. Its creation has an American focus and will work as a springboard for other countries to follow suit – adapting it to fit their own needs. Ultimately, Madeleine, Christina, and the rest of the SBR team would like to convene a UN Convention for Singles Bill of Rights, and create a Universal Bill of Rights for Singles.

    Madeleine is a Lead Project Assistant for an engineering firm, a scandalous divorcee/born again Spinster, a single dog mom, and a self-guided researcher and writer regarding feminism and women’s creativity. She is currently working on a comparative study of women writers and an almanac of women writers across cultures and history, in addition to working on the Singles Bill of Rights.

    Christina co-founded the singles' advocacy blog Onely, long before singles’ rights were cool. Her articles about marital status discrimination have appeared in The Atlantic and elsewhere. She is seeking representation for her memoir about invisible illness, which contains award-winning essays on physical and mental health. She lives in Northern Virginia with her infrared sauna and two semi-geriatric cats.

    Both women are happily single and childfree.

    Topics that we cover are:

    • the medical discrimination that singles face;
    • including in the Bill the right to equal healthcare regardless of marital status;
    • the right to equal access for singles to health, bereavement, and other benefits within the work place;
    • how health insurance discriminates against single people;
    • the tendency to regard minorities as ‘less than’;
    • the similarities in discrimination within the LGBTQ community, and the singles community;
    • the team of people involved in creating the Singles Bill of Rights, including Bella DePaulo and Dr. Kris Marsh;
    • how single disabled people, and single chronically ill people, are disproportionately discriminated against;
    • the goal of bringing the Singles Bill of Rights to every country around the world;
    • why we should look at creating ‘life event leave’ for singles who don’t take maternity or paternity leave;
    • why we need single people and their lives to be better represented in the media, in movies, in the news etc…;
    • Madeleine and Christina’s favourite things about being single.

  • Minisode Ep.115 - Love As A Verb
    Jul 20 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

    On today's minisode, I'm talking about love as a verb, rather than a noun.

    As single women, it's all too easy to passively wait for that certain someone to come along and give us love. It's like we're always waiting to receive it.

    But what if we started to think of love as a verb? What if we started to think of love as an action that we take, and as something that we are? What if we placed our focus on actively putting love out into the world, instead of thinking that it needs to come to us via a romantic partner, over and above any other form of love?

  • Thursday Thoughts - Not Giving A Sh*t What Other People Think
    Jul 18 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

    On today's Thursday Thoughts, Polly and I are talking about not giving a fu*k what other people think.

    Whether it's people we know, or random strangers on the internet, we can all relate to the fear and anxiety around other people's opinions.

    We talk about the different ways of thinking that can lessen our worries, as well as how learning how to laugh at ourselves can alleviate these fears.

    Polly and I share some embarrassing experiences of our own that speak to this topic, and we also chat about how we've both learnt to care less about what other people think in recent years. But...it's still a work in progress!

    Ultimately, worrying about the opinions of others is not only futile, but is also a total waste of our energy. And besides...none of us will be here in 100 years, so what are we actually worrying for?!

    We hope you'll find something useful in here.

    Love,
    Polly & Lucy x

    • how both women intend to be single for the rest of their lives;
    • how despite being married twice, Madeleine had always yearned for spinsterhood;
    • what exactly the Singles Bill of Rights is and why it’s so important;
    • how pervasive singlism is in all areas of society from politics to academia;
    • how they want to address such things as the perception of singlehood as something unusual, undesirable, or just a passing phase;
    • how they will be including the right to be charged for services without a penalty for being single;
    • how businesses, companies, and tax are set up for couples, not singles;
    • gift taxing, retirement accounts, and how important is for single people to be given the same rights as married couples;
    • how single people spend an extortionate amount more money than couples over the course of their lifetime;
    • bereavement leave, and the unfair treatment of singles in this regard;
    • how people are - consciously or unconsciously - considered more valuable when they’re married;
    • how singles aren’t really celebrated for anything during the course of their lifetime.

    Jul 13 2024

    Send us a Text Message.

    On today's minisode, I'm talking about quitting.

    We're often lead to believe that quitting something means we've 'failed', and that it's mainly a bad thing to quit. But I don't believe this to be the case.

    We have to know when quitting is actually a win, and we need to muster the courage to do it - when we know in our hearts it's right for us - despite disappointing others.
