    Understanding Bipolar Disorder Through the Lens of Major General Gregg Martin: In this episode I interviewed a distinguished military leader with a compelling story of resilience and advocacy. Our conversation delved into Greg's journey with bipolar disorder, his mission to destigmatize mental health issues, and the lessons he has learned along the way. 

Gregg's Mission and Purpose: Gregg's mission is to share his bipolar story to help stop the stigma, promote recovery, and save lives. He emphasised that this has become his full-time occupation, and he finds great fulfilment in it.

He mentioned that getting enough sleep and not taking the job too seriously could have slowed down the progression of his condition. The Role of Medication: Gregg shared his positive experience with lithium, a medication that stabilised his brain chemistry and alleviated his symptoms of depression. The Impact of Military Service on Mental Health and The Triggering Event” Greg recounted the pivotal event during his service in Iraq in 2003, which he believes triggered his bipolar disorder. The combination of pressure, thrill, euphoria, and stress during this period activated his bipolar gene. The Prevalence of Mental Health Issues Among Veterans: The conversation also touched on the high prevalence of bipolar disorder and other mental health issues among veterans. Greg noted that while 3-4% of the general population has bipolar disorder, the rate is significantly higher among veterans.
