  • #9 Reviewing Deep Blue Sea (1999)
    Jun 2 2024

In this ninth podcast episode, Matt reviews the 1999 science fiction horror film, Deep Blue Sea, directed by Renny Harlin from a script credited to Duncan Kennedy, Donna Powers and Wayne Powers. This deep dive into the film's behind the scenes story celebrates Deep Blue Sea's 25th anniversary. Starring Thomas Jane, Saffron Burrows, Samuel L Jackson and LL Cool J and scored by Trevor Rabin, Deep Blue Sea remains an incredibly fun watch, a film filled full of B movie charm. It's animatronic shark props, produced by Walt Conti and Edge Innovations, are worth the price of admission alone, still looking impressive all these years later.

  • #8 Reviewing Godzilla/Gojira ゴジラ (1954)
    Feb 23 2024

In this eighth podcast episode, Matt reviews the 1954 Japanese Kaiju classic Godzilla, or Gojira, directed by Ishiro Honda from a screenplay written between Honda and Takeo Murata, from a story by Shigeru Kayama. 2024 marks the franchise's 70th anniversary, so what better way to celebrate the King of the Monsters than to look back at the origins of the world's longest running film franchise. With a stellar cast, including the great character actor Takashi Shimura, a masterful score from the legendary composer Akira Ifukube and the often death defying and unsung performances of its suit actors, Godzilla is an important piece of cinematic history that stands the test of time. Hopefully you enjoy this review of it!

  • #7 Reviewing Horror Express (1972)
    Jan 18 2024

In this seventh podcast episode, Matt reviews the 1972 cult classic Horror Express, a sci-fi horror film starring Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Telly Savalas. Directed by Eugenio Martin, put into production to make the most of a model train from a previous production and worked on by a team of writers blacklisted by the House Un-American Activities Committee, Horror Express was a film designed to generate a quick profit on a small budget. Instead audiences were taken on an adventure across the Siberian tundra, the film's witty script lent life and charm by its veteran cast. Hopefully you enjoy this review of it!

  • #6: Reviewing Rush (2013)
    Dec 31 2023

In this sixth podcast episode, Matt reviews Ron Howard's 2013 Formula 1 Niki Lauda and James Hunt biopic, Rush on its 10th anniversary. Rush stars Daniel Brühl and Chris Hemsworth as the two famous F1 stars alongside a rich cast which includes Alexandra Maria Lara and Olivia Wilde. Capturing the pinnacle of 1970s motor racing in style, Rush charts the early careers of Niki and James before retelling their titanic battle for the 1976 Formula 1 World Drivers' Championship, often hailed as one of the greatest in the sport's history. As F1 and motorsport is a big passion of Matt's, this review has taken longer to put together than initially anticipated, particularly as this episode also compares the events depicted in the movie to their real-life counterparts, but hopefully you enjoy it!

  • #4: Reviewing Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery (2022)
    Dec 2 2022

In this fourth podcast episode, Matt reviews Rian Johnson's Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the 2022 sequel to 2019's Knives Out. Recently released for a limited time in theatres, Knives Out is coming to Netflix in December and is, once again, a stellar outing for Daniel Craig as the last of the gentleman sleuths, Benoit Blanc. Harking back to the whodunits of old, Glass Onion follows Knives Out's example, delivering a smartly written and often hilarious tale, gleefully misdirecting the audience and subverting our expectations.
