  • Episode 176: Dead Dog Road
    Jun 24 2024
In 2003, an East Texas couple adopted three young Russian children. Over the years, there were countless red flags for child abuse, especially against the oldest child, Alexey, who began running away when he was 12. He ended up on the doorstep of the Roosevelt House, an emergency shelter, assessment center, and residential care facility for children removed from abusive situations, usually by CPS. The home’s founder, Diane Black, had no idea that her battle to save Alexey and his sisters, Anastasia and Svetlana, would upend life as she knew it.

Diane detailed the story of Alexey, his sisters, the Roosevelt House, and the egregious systemic failure of the Texas child protection system in a book called Dead Dog Road: A True Story Into the Dark World of an Abused Child. In this episode, you’ll hear my recent conversation with Diane about the appalling ways CPS and law enforcement failed Alexey, Anastasia, and Svetlana, and much more.

For this episode, I had the privilege of talking to forensic psychologists Dr. Shiloh and Dr. Scott, the hosts of the L.A. Not So Confidential podcast. With years of expertise under their belts, the doctors had plenty of insight for us into the topic of child abuse, why it happens, and much more.

  • Episode 174: Macy Grace Ditty (Part 2)
    May 26 2024
Last week, I told you the story of two-year-old Macy Grace Ditty, who arrived at the hospital in Fayetteville, North Carolina on December 2, 2015, covered in bruises. Macy’s mother, Jeanie Ditty, went to trial for murder, but that ended in a mistrial due to a hung jury, and now, over eight years after Macy’s death, justice still hasn’t been served.

In this episode, you’ll hear my conversation with Michelle Smith, Macy Grace’s great-aunt, who runs the Justice for Macy Facebook page and dedicates herself to keeping her precious niece’s memory alive.

This is part two of the mind-boggling story of Macy Grace Ditty.

Miles alone on the road

First time listener and I must say this episode was the most deplorable horrible sadden case of child abuse I have ever heard of. this little boy AJ will forever have my heart and I pray his mother suffers everyday of her life. I don't ever recall getting very emotional while listening to podcasts but this one did it today as AJ's lawyer was making his closing statements and referring to being hit in the head and adding the slaps with it just broke me down. I love children all of children and I feel that anyone that abuses children should walk the flames of hell. thank you for the great listening will continue to listen you have earned another true and faithful.

it's not about you.

Your passion is understandable. really. But I don't expect the host to get emotionally involved in the story. it somehow takes away from the experience. therefore, I won't be listening to STLC going forward.

Amazing Podcast!!!

Each episode is heartbreaking, but some are hard to get through hearing what people can do to poor innocent babies/children!
Lynn does an amazing job doing so much research to have all the information for each case. I enjoy that she comes back and does updates when things happen in the cases.

Great

Tough subject, she does amazing bringing these silenced voices back. They need to be heard. Need breaks sometimes so it doesn't trigger my PTSD.

By far my favorite podcast

Love all of them. All of the cases are well researched, and Laine doesn't back down from the hard details. I can't image the toll it takes to put just one show together, much less close to 100 and still counting. thank you for doing this podcast, honey; who knows how many children you may have already saved.

My Daily Audible Go To

My favorite podcast. Every story is complete, in that, Laine includes every detail, to include, those who are left to mourn the loss of the child they loved, very thorough descriptions of the abusers past and present, other agencies that failed to help, the legal/court process, and most importantly all about the victim and who they were. Every story brings out waves of emotions from sadness to anger. Also, brings a smile to my face hearing about the precious child the victim was.

The composition of the stories is amazing. I love how much research goes into each case. And your delivery is fantastic! I’ve been binging for a few weeks now. I can’t get enough! Thank you for giving a voice to the innocent ❤️

STOP with the support of craziness

The stories are good...but I don't like the options of the author. Please keep your opinions and suggestions to yourself. Most people who listen to this, are looking for an escape from political opinion. If we wanted CNN ideologies, we wouldn't be listening to podcasts!
