July 22, 1939...Jane Bolin was appointed family court judge in New York, becoming the first black female judge in the US. Also, the first black woman to graduate from Yale Law School, she used the racial discrimination she faced as motivation to change segregationist policies. She was reinstated for 3 terms, serving a total of 40 years before retiring at 70 years old.

July 21, 1919...The first Goodyear blimp met a terrible fate on its first day in the air. During its 3rd small trip of the day, a fire erupted from the hydrogen gas of the aircraft, causing an explosion, ultimately claiming 13 lives.

Ann Cooper Hewitt...A California heiress set to inherit 2/3 of her father's four-million-dollar estate, was sterilized by her mother just before her 21st birthday without her knowledge or consent. The eugenics movement in the US last 40 years, this was a common occurrence, and endorsed by the supreme court. but Ann fought back; she sued her mother and the doctors who performed the procedure.

July 19, 1848 the Seneca Falls Women’s Convention began. The two day convention was planned by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and local Quaker women, and hoped to give women a voice in home, religion, politics, and education. It was an immense success and is credited as the start of the women's rights movement.

July 18, 64 AD...A fire started in ancient Rome, burning for a total of 9 days. Ten of the fourteen districts were lost, and Nero, the ruler of the time, used the fire as an opportunity to persecute the newly formed Christian church and redesign the city.

June 17, 1918...The Romanov imperial family and their servants were murdered by the Bolshevik. The Bolshevik announced the execution of the Czar, but led the citizens to believe the Empress and children were in hiding for their safety. Their bodies were burned with acid, buried in a shallow grave and hidden from the Russian people for 70 years.
