Sutton House: Home to Henry VIII's Secretary of State

  • Summary

  • Sutton House is the oldest house in Hackney, built in 1535. It's been the home to Ralph Sadler, secretary to Thomas Cromwell and Secretary of State to Henry VIII, John Milward, a governor of the East India Company, as well as later in the 1980s becoming a home to squatters, as well a ghost or two. (Most Haunted fans may have seen the Sutton House episode with none other than Lee Ryan from Blue!)

Sutton House's Visitor Experiences Officer Jo Nightingale takes us on a whistle-stop tour through these fascinating corridors - from the middle of Tudor Dynasty, through to the influence of the Spanish Armada, and Georgian renovations.
