Today I’m speaking with Dr. Sasho MacKenzie, co-founder of The Stack System, an innovative training tool that applies principles from the world of track and field to improve your clubhead speed in an efficient and measurable way.

“I like to use the Stack to reinforce positive swing mechanics,” says Dr. MacKenzie.

Listen in as he explains how the The Stack System targets the force of the grip to measure swing speeds, and how its personalized app offers real-time feedback and actionable data to the user, making the program an indispensable training companion.

We then explore success stories and the transformative potential of The Stack System. With the top 5,000 users gaining an average of 12 miles per hour, and a recommended gain of 6-10 miles per hour from the 6-week foundation program, we discuss what golfers can expect from using the system over time.

In the same vein, Dr. MacKenzie also addresses the minority of users who may struggle with lack of control over their swing speed, particularly at max-level, offering advice and solutions for overcoming their limitations.

We then talk about how The Stack System can be applied in various training environments and climates. We focus especially on how it can be beneficial for female golfers looking to add aggression to their game.

Finally, Dr. MacKenzie and I discuss the program’s Stack Putting System and how its progressive training structure can help you minimize your putting biases over time, whether you’re struggling with speed or direction.

    About The Stack System:

TheStack is a golf speed training system used to biohack your clubhead speed. It’s been used successfully by Tour players at all levels and hundreds of amateurs of all ages and abilities. TheStack was co-founded by biomechanist Dr. Sasho MacKenzie, the research practitioner behind the world’s top golf coaches, and Marty Jertson, a golf generalist, a PGA of America member, and a named inventor on over 125 patents in the golf industry.

  • 142. Distance Series: HOW to Get the Distance You Want with Lisa Longball
    Jul 22 2024
Justin Klemballa and I sit down with 8-time Canadian long drive champion Lisa Longball. Together, we unpack the three primary mistakes stopping women from gaining more distance in their golf swing and how to fix them! We also discuss Lisa's personal training schedule, why muscle memory is way more important than muscular strength, and the vital role of rest in achieving peak performance. We also explore the significance of tempo and having a mental routine alongside a physical one. Lisa shares her insightful personal experiences as a world-class athlete, including her triumph of hitting the longest drive in women's golf history, and what she did to gain the highest swing speed she's ever achieved. 3 Reasons You Lack Distance in Your Swing (and What to Do Instead) (06:47) Reason 1: You’re an arms lifter. Because women are naturally more flexible than men, it’s easy to think you’re turning when you’re really just lifting your arms. Lisa recommends looking at your body in two parts: the upper body and the lower body. During the backswing, start with your lead shoulder, forcing you to turn your chest turning away from the ball. On the other hand, during the downswing, maximize the coil and torque you’ve built up by leading with your lower body. (09:25) Reason 2: Your golf swing sequence is flawed or lacking. “Turn the shirt” on the backswing, freeze, then “turn the skirt” on the downswing. The best way to make this sequence second nature is by practicing dissociation drills, as well as training to move your weight to the instep of the back foot when transitioning from the backswing to the downswing. (18:43) Reason 3: You don’t finish the golf swing. Most golfers put all their focus on hitting the ball, so that once they make contact, they begin to decelerate and fail to maximize distance as a result. Your clubhead should be at its fastest not on the ball, but three feet past the ball. Always keep this in mind: Hit through the ball, not to the ball. About the Guest: Lisa Longball is an 8-time Canadian long drive national champion and has finished as high as 2nd in the world. She is an LDA Tour champion and Callaway Golf sponsored athlete. In addition to her competitive career, Lisa is a Golf Journalist for several publications including Inside Golf Magazine and has had her own column in Golf Digest Canada. Lisa uses her vast experience as a World Class athlete to be a successful keynote Peak Performance Speaker at conferences and conventions, is a Golf Entertainer for many corporate/charity golf tournaments across North America including PGA Tour and Champions Tour events and runs her own Golf School for Women both in Canada and the United States. Jul 18 2024
Could your swing speed be holding you back? Join us for the second of our three-part distance series as Andrew Hannon and I uncover the essential steps to boosting your clubhead and ball speed. We discuss why it’s crucial to work with a swing coach to create a technique plan and set baseline metrics like your smash factor. We also stress the importance of setting realistic goals and using radar tools or launch monitors, such as the PRGR, to track your progress. You’ll learn how integrating high-intensity practice sessions can push your limits and help enhance your speed. Next, we talk training routines that can elevate your overall golf performance. Discover how to strategically blend gym workouts, short game practice, and speed training into your schedule for optimal results. We highlight the importance of balancing strength, mobility, and flexibility–and especially how these attributes impact female golfers. Finally, we delve into various golf speed training techniques, starting with the "Three Strike Method" and a comprehensive 15-swing driver practice routine. You’ll understand the benefits of consistent, high-intensity practice on the range and how it translates to faster, more reliable swings on the course. We also explore the benefits of training barefoot to enhance foot and ankle mobility as championed by US Open winner Wyndham Clark.
