  • Mayor Mike Schmitz is a shareholder/partner in Point CPA, formally Schmitz-Holmstrom CPA, with experience in supervising engagements, performing audits, and business and tax consulting services. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed to practice in North Dakota. Mike holds a BS from the University of Mary with double majors in Business Administration and Accounting and MBA in Accountancy also from the University of Mary and has over 30 years of experience. Mike Created Schmitz­Holmstrom CPA June 1, 2019, when he purchased the Bismarck and Hazen offices of Widmer Roel PC where he was a stockholder/partner of Widmer Roel PC for over 15 years, he served as Senior Trust Officer for over five years, as the Director of Finance for a private company for two and a half years, as Partner in Charge of audit, review, compilation and tax engagements for five and a half years, and as manager and staff accountant for eight years.

    Mike is currently a board member of the North Dakota State Board of Accountancy served as President July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2021, is a current board member of NASBA and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the taxation section of the AICPA, and the North Dakota Society of Certified Public Accountants. Mike has served and still serves on the finance committees for several local non-profit organizations and is a past member and past president of the Board of Trustees for the Bismarck State College Foundation. He previously served as a member of the AICPA Council, a member of the Professional Ethics Executive Committee of the AICPA, member of the Board of Directors, President, and Chair of the Ethics Committee, and member of the Taxation Committee of the North Dakota Society of Certified Public Accountants. Currently Mike is the Mayor of the City of Bismarck, being elected to that office in June of 2022.

    Mike is married to Janel, they will be celebrating their 40 th wedding anniversary in July of 2024 he has three sons, one daughter in law and two grandchildren. In his free time he enjoys cooking and sharing good food with friends, family and neighbors.
