  • Exclusive: Let It Rain- A Conversation with Action Filmmaker Brandon Slagle of Breakout & The Flood!
    Jun 11 2023
Action filmmaker Brandon Slagle has quickly become my go to guy for getting my adrenaline fix on streaming sites. Coincidentally, Slagle started with horror films as a director but has since moved into the high-octane game and with fine results I might add. Slagle helmed last year’s Battle for Saipan which made it onto my best of 2022 list with its eclectic mix of war action and devastating hand to hand combat. Slagle is now officially one of my top five indie action directors per Action-Flix and watching a movie helmed by the filmmaker will tell you that he’s a lover of old school action movies. After all, those that respect and love the action genre are the ones that know how to effectively put it on the screen and Slagle is top tier. From bullet riddled pics like Breakout to the upcoming release of The Flood which is an awesomely rad looking mash up of the horror pics JAWS, Alligator and the iconic actioner Assault on Precinct 13, Brandon Slagle is currently En Fuega when it comes to the realm of Indie Action Cinema Magic. On this episode of the Action Fix Podcast, Slagle stops by to talk about his career, getting started and his music endeavors as well. We also go through his filmography gauntlet including past action offerings like Escape from Ensenada, Crossbreed, and Attack of the Unknown. Slagle gives us all the behind the scenes intel on his films including his recent hits Battle for Saipan, Breakout and the upcoming The Flood which is due to hit Theaters, On Demand and Digital on July 14, 2023. It's Action Filmmaker Brandon Slagle on this episode of The Action Fix Podcast! Buckle Up!

  • Review: Thomas Jane & Jesse V. Johnson Deliver Stone Age Justice in the Bullet Infused ONE RANGER!
    May 8 2023
Filmmaker Jesse V. Johnson is back in the director's chair and this time he's doing what he does best as he gives us the old-school action-packed thriller One Ranger starring The Punisher himself Thomas jane in a role he was meant to play. One Ranger stars Jane as a Texas Ranger circa Nick Notle's Jack Benteen in Extreme Prejudice as he unites with an MI-6 operative played by his The Expanse co-star Dominiquie Tipper. From opening salvo to the last gun discharge, Johnson and Jane deliver stone age justice with action sequences featuring Johnson's signature and brutal violence. There's firepower and fisticuffs aplenty to be enjoyed by genre fans and this is one film you will definitely want to add to your filmography arsenal. On this episode of The Action Fix Podcast, I break down what makes this a solid throwback style action pic with a could give a shit character actor like Jane running the gauntlet of bad guys. Take a look at the episode now as One Ranger is Action-Flix Approved!!!

  • GI JOE: How America’s Special Missions Force can Survive Theatrically & More!
    May 4 2023
You all know that I'm a GI Joe fan. Yes, from the late "70's when the toy line was but a few characters who were much bigger than the 80's line to today, I bleed YO Joe from sunup to sundown. When Marvel introduced the comic book and subsequent toy line in 1982, I was 9 years old, so this was right in my wheelhouse as I was the perfect age for what they were selling. The characters, the vehicles, the action were all to die for and GI JOE was always more for me then the Transformers. Sorry fans of the latter but I have always been a military action junkie so they always won out over robots changing into vehicles. Even more so, I am a huge super nerd for anything Snake Eye related as he has and will always be my favorite character in this or any other film or TV property. Snake is the perfect bad ass as he is not just a Ninja but he's a Ninja Commando. Mind blown as a 9-year-old kid. Storm Shadow was just as killer in my eyes and I was always excited to read of their exploits in the comics and performed many battles of my own between the two with my action figures. As I type this, they are well represented behind me on my wall and bookcase. Well, as a fan from the beginning, I have a few ideas for what to do next with the property. I still feel that GI JOE would flourish as a series of films on a streaming site like Paramount Plus who owns the rights or as a series that can delve even more into the larger stories this property has to offer.

  • Brandon Lee Retrospective: Celebrating a Martial Arts Legend & His Films
    Apr 3 2023
30 years ago this year, the martial arts community was devastated when actor, and son of Bruce Lee, Brandon Lee was killed while filming The Crow. Brandon was something special. He was in the shadows of his famous father for his whole life, but he was just starting to emerge into the light and make a name for himself as not only an action star but a genuine Hollywood star. What could have been. Lee only made a handful of films with 1992’s Rapid Fire being his only true to the word, full-blown action flick along with Showdown in Little Tokyo (I don’t count Laser Mission). It was 30 years ago this year that we lost a rising star who was full of so much potential. I often think about if Lee was still alive to this day what he would have accomplished in film. This one hit hard and still stings to this day but on this episode of The Action Fix Podcast, we celebrate the man who was taken away from us way too soon and his film legacy that he left us. I am joined by Shane “The Action Nerd” Loggains of The Action Nerd (Dudes Being Dudes Talking About Movies) Podcast to celebrate the man and his films. Rapid Fire, Showdown in Little Tokyo and, of course, The Crow, we cover it all as well as some not so worthy films like Laser Mission. It’s a special remembrance on this episode of The Action Fix!
