Taking on the Global Food Crisis by Solving Hunger and Malnutrition - Neel Ghose, Robin Hood Army

  • Summary

  • Global agricultural systems produce around 4 million metric tonnes of food every year, more than enough to feed 10 billion people. So why does hunger and malnutrition still exist? Today, 795 million people are hungry. Another 2 billion are expected to join them by 2050. Could it be that global food production is incredibly inefficient or is our inability to feed the entirely of the world’s population stemming from excess? And where does all of the extra food go? Mostly, in our bins. Every day, enormous quantities of food are thrown away, while too many go to sleep without having eaten a single meal. This paradox of abundance vs shortage is a created problem, one that can be solved if we make use of local resources, divert surplus to the hands with nothing and improve community resilience. The idea of a zero-fund volunteer-driven nonprofit organisation began to improve food access to those who need it most. In this episode of Sustainable Tea with Shreya, co-founder of @RobinHoodArmy. , Neel Ghose and @SustainableTeaWithShreya discuss how hunger is more than missing a meal and that has the less fortunate in its grip, why the NGO won’t accept money, the purpose behind the altruistic work they do, and how they developed a humanitarian network of good samaritans in India and across the world to solve the global hunger crisis.
