  • Summary

  • MEDIA PETROS presents... That And How It All Happened - (6-part limited series podcast): A 3-hour "sound art & storytelling" audio drama podcast, as told in 30-minute chapters, over the course of six weeks. Each weekly chapter tells its own story, and is part of the larger 180-minute narrative. Inspired by the old-time experimental radio series Columbia Workshop (1936-1943), informed by the multi-layered storytelling techniques of modern filmmakers; combining spoken word, sound art and music, all used as narrative devices in this neo-surrealist tale. It's a listener immersive tale, in which the listener is addressed directly (as "You") by various characters who "break the fourth wall" from time to time throughout. That And... audio drama features a mix of public domain-sourced spoken word and "sound" material in telling its story, PD sources include Internet Archive, LibriVox Audiobooks, and Freesound (dot org); plus original shortwave radio frequencies-sweep recordings made for this project. Public-domain literary material used herein includes (edited excerpts from) audio-readings of late 19th- to mid-20th Century pulp Science Fiction short stories (by Edwin Abbott Abbott, Mark Clifton, William Doede, R. A. Lafferty, H.G. Wells) and scientific / instructional texts (Lilli Lehmann trans. Richard Aldrich, Arabella Buckley, Jean-Henri Fabre, James Clerk Maxwell), in addition to dramatic material from OTR series Columbia Workshop. Synopsis: "The Swimmer swims shoreward. Traveler X travels quite unexpectedly. In the city, the wall of the time cracks. Meanwhile, across an aerial ocean flowing all 'round the globe, a lively trembling of the sonorous object meets the inconceivable speed of light. Now, back to our podcast studio announcers." RECURRING CHARACTERS include: The Swimmer - chapters 1, 5 (cameo @ riverside), & 6. Traveler X - chpts 2, 3 (cameo @ city square), & 5. The Shortwave Conversationalists - chpts 1, 3, & 6. Point/Counterpoint Studio Announcers, in a music vs. noise debate, each appearing consecutively - in chpts 4 & 5.

THAT AND HOW IT ALL HAPPENED - Chapter 4: Measure the Time

"One, two, three, and so on. What do you say?"

The Studio Announcer speaks of silence and of music that's particularly disturbed by noise, while a lively trembling of the sonorous object meets the inconceivable speed of light. Beyond the precipice, everything is hidden and hazy with distance.

Also, the podcast experiences brief technical difficulties, offering a rare behind-the-scenes listen as it's fixed.
