The Body of Evidence

By: Dr. Christopher Labos and Jonathan Jarry
  • Summary

  • A weekly podcast about medicine and the super-sketchy stuff you found online when you googled your symptoms. Cardiologist Dr. Christopher Labos and science communicator Jonathan Jarry bring clarity and levity to these complex health topics. Listen to weekly interviews, original reporting and humour-filled commentaries that will distract you from the inevitable reality that you too will one day get sick and die. Just hopefully not for a while.

  • 111 - Rabies
    Oct 2 2024

What does the body of evidence say about rabies? Well, for one, it is the human disease with the worst case-fatality rate. Once you develop the symptoms, your outlook isn’t good. But its long incubation period makes it easy to do something that may not be intuitive: to give the infected person a vaccine… after they’ve been bit.

  • Chelation Therapy for Heart Disease
    Sep 25 2024

It’s a pseudoscience that seemed to work at first, but now the same researcher who “proved” that it worked has proven that it doesn’t. Do we need to purge people of heavy metals to make sure they don’t have heart attacks? No… but you won’t believe the price tag we’ve had to pay to gain this wisdom.

  • 109 - Cranberries for UTIs and a New Menopause Treatment
    Sep 18 2024

Can cranberry juice help prevent UTIs… or will any liquid do? Also: a new drug has been tested to treat the symptoms of menopause and it looks pretty good. As Chris and Jonathan appraise these studies, you will learn about the importance of placebo arms in clinical trials.

Correction: it turns out that urine is not sterile. Even the bladder has bacteria in it! https://www.livescience.com/health/is-pee-sterile

Entertaining, bold, (un)common scientific sense!

While searching online for the scientific truths about Covid, I came across Jonathon Jarry and Christopher Labos. i've listened to every podcast and appreciate the way they clearly define what they are talking about and their numerous interviews with researchers and journalists. I've also read many of the books written by their interviewees. I refer to and recommend this podcast in many of my conversations!
