The Bryar Patch

  • Summary

  • Hi I'm Bryan and I'm the main host of the show! Along with my wonderful, beautiful wife and co-host Rebecca. Formerly Chef Bry Comedy, we used to be 5-star rated podcast Surviving Empathy. After 141 episodes spanning several years, having discussed everything under the sun, we were at a natural stopping point. Then, with mom's cancer diagnosis, we decided to finish the show and take some time off to do some deep life contemplation and reflection. Now we're back!

We rebranded things a little bit, adding the YouTube channel and video portion of the show as a companion to our usual audio podcast which streams everywhere, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Audible, Amazon Music, and more. You can also watch our videos at https:://www.youtube.com/@bryarpatchmedia. Liking and subscribing hurts no one and helps immensely, so thank you!

We're still all about spreading kindness and good cheer, and promoting robust mind, body, and soul nourishment and healing. Now more experienced, we also try to bring our unique mix of humor, earnestness, irreverence, and meta thinking in an educational way.

The show has always been about honoring real life working class people like you and me, celebrating those unsung working class heroes. We recognize the monstrous amount of responsibilities, stress, hardship, and nonsense average folks have to contend with without much recognition or reward. But we stay the course and do what it takes to survive in order to eventually SUR-THRIVE! Demanding a better quality of life than what's given, we all require catharsis, comfort, clarity, purpose, and hope in this bittersweet mediocre workaday life. We're all about cultivating the right mindset and attitudes for quality sustainable living. Just like you, we're just trying to get ahead and to live the best life we can while we can!

We tackle today's current events, pop-culture, old-school movies and nostalgia, and all things #spookylife #nerdlife! As well as hot takes and analysis about our culture and times today from a positive slant, always from the point of view of, how does this affect us regular people and how might we process it in a healthy way?

Our guilty pleasure is the paranormal, cryptids, UFOs, extraterrestrials, and all things mysterious and weird. As skeptics and secular humanists, we analyze things from a scientifically grounded rationalist perspective. Hopeful soft believers, we try to discern the truest nature of the universe and our place in it through a science meets spiritual approach.

Self-described empaths, we offer advice and support for empaths, sensitives, introverts, misanthropes, and those who've always felt just a little bit different than the herd. We want to learn all there is about what it means to be "energetically sensitive," and what's truly going on in the world and universe at large through a meta lens. Always straight shooters, we continually seek to help and inspire, to uplift and make people laugh, while dispatching society's haters and trolls! We're the perfect chilling while doing other things podcast!

As an Army vet, voice artist, chef, comic, writer, and former EMT, I'm just trying to do my part in making this world feel like a good kind place, preserving dignity and integrity, offering hope and common sense solutions. Good folks are everywhere, these unsung heroes doing their best, while low quality people get all the attention; the squeaky wheel gets the grease! But life's just too short to suffer fools. Life's so much better when we can value integrity, decency, rationalism, and normalcy. Sure we get snarky sometimes, but always with a light-hearted and fun sensibility. Life's at its best when we can laugh through adversity and enjoy life to its fullest! Be bold but be kind! Welcome to the Bryar Patch, where humor meets heart.

  • Election Day is Here! 🤢😆😎
    Nov 6 2024

On this short video we talk about our election and life anxieties, as well as the future of the channel, depending on where our country goes. We're optimistic, but all nerves right now. But the truth is we have to be both cautiously "nauseously" optimistic, but also prepare for the possible gut punch that may come. But more than that, also prepare the fact that this could also go really well! Just because we think it doesn't make it real. This election will deliver either a giant boost or a huge slump to our our mental health, depending on the outcome. We empaths and progressives are a sensitive, wounded, and neurotic bunch, but please do not give in to fear and nihilism! Because no matter what happens, we cannot stop fighting for forward thinking values and what we know is right. We cannot give in to negativity and anxiety, nor can we neglect our physical and emotional health. We're all in this together, and there's no way up and out of this without an ample supply of positivity, enthusiasm, tenacity, and optimism for the future. Remember, we're all here for each other and we're all in this together!

  • The Anti YouTuber, Enrichment is Hard When Barely Getting By, The Males are Not OK
    Oct 28 2024

On this special episode, I wanted to talk about the fine line as an empath of also trying to just be myself; a regular guy who likes baseball and is just a regular dude, just with a natural ability for sensitivity. I've always felt inherently masculine and still in touch with my sensitive side, here I talk about what is required in maintaining that balance. Then I talk about the how American culture as a whole isn't bettering themselves due to the sheer amount of financial and emotional challenges just to stay afloat, and what it takes to get there. Plus, the difficulty in transitioning from radio and podcasting to YouTube, and the difficulty in trying to satisfy both my audience and myself.

I talk about the real issues going on in America, and how this thing is being exploited by the alt right, corporations, and manipulators. I speak about the lesser known dangers of the Trump/MAGA movement and what that influence has on young impressionable males, especially when males are having an especially hard time fitting in and finding themselves and their emotional core, or any sense of community or understanding around them, and how that has become weaponized for socio-political purposes to push a radical anti-democracy movement.

Lastly, I speak about how I'm trying to form fit this channel into being both a safe place for people and where I can have fun and be both the radio guy and the YouTuber simultaneously. To be both the soldier and the empath at the same time, where it's ok to diverge from my usual kind seef in order to get stuff off my chest. At the end of the day, it's always more difficult in the beginning, finding your voice, finding your audience, and finding a happy medium between comfort and pushing the envelope into better things. So please, if you like us and what we're all about please like, subscribe, and help out in any small ways that you can! We appreciate you, and appreciate your kindness and patience while I figure out the best way forward for this channel.

    Behold, our stuff!
