First review is Harold And The Purple Crayon starring Zachary Levi, Zooey Deschanel, Lol Rei Howery, Tanya Reynolds and Jemaine Clement. This live action film is inspired by the popular children books created by Crocket Johnson. All about a small boy with a magical crayon who let his imagination flow, draw what he wanted with two animals as his friends. In the cinematic version, Harold has grown up and wants to find his father in the real world. As he tries to find the old man, someone wants his crayon for his own nefarious reasons.

Our final review, is a re-release of Hayao Miyazaki's wonderful My Neighbour Totoro from Studio Ghibli. Elysian Film Group who released Miyazaki's last film The Boy And Heron, giving cinephiles old and new a chance to relive the 1989 film on the big screen. A study of childhood in Post-War Japan, 2 young girls live care free lives in the country as their mother recovers from illness. They soon discover a mysterious place of spirits and magic, and the friendship of the Totoro woodland creatures.

In case Apollo 11 mission fails, Launch director, Cole Davis (Channing Tatum) is determined to succeed.

After a short Summer break, Clotilde Chinnici and Paul Devine are back with The Chronicle Film Podcast episode 031. In this episode they will review Richard Linklater's Hit Man and Disney-Pixar's Inside Out 2.

Next review is the long awaited sequel to the Pixar 2015 film, Inside Out with Inside Out 2! Will once again follow Riley now hitting puberty, shock horror new emotions await her. As her and 2 friends are invited to a special ice hockey holiday which will have the old emotions coming to the rescue.

Finally, during our time off Clotilde was at two film festivals, Cannes in France and Sundance London. Sharing her thoughts on both festivals and what she saw there.

After the icy cold unholy terror of Saint Maud, the debut film by Rose Glass, we step back into 1980s New Mexico, USA. Kristen Stewart plays Lou, a gym manager leading a mundane life that is turned upside down when Jacky (Katy O’Brian) walks into the gym. Sparks fly and a full romance blossoms, but Lou has a dark past that catches up with her at the wrong times. Her father, Lou Snr (Ed Haris), just happens to be the local crimelord and Jacky’s employer.

This review was originally written for The Glasgow Film Festival and BFI Flare, and I do mention these festivals in the review.

First up is Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon Part 2: The Scargiver. Part one was epic in scale, but an epic failure in what mattered. For Part 2: The Scargiver, the surviving rebels head to Veldt. Sofia Boutella is back as Kora, who now leads her ragtag bunch of warriors defending the moon Vedt against the Imperium. She does have one thing standing inher way, Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein), who has returned from the grave.Was the damage done in part one, or will you give part two a go?

Our final film is Luca Guadagnino's Challengers, starring Zendaya, Josh O’Connor, and Mike Faist. The Dune star stars as Tashi Donaldson, a one-time tennis prodigy whose promising career ended prematurely. She would become the coach of her now-husband Art (Faist), a superstar going through acrisis. To boost his reputation, Art enters a local tournament, onlyto come up against Tashi’s former boyfriend, Patrick (O’Connor).

Is this a war movie? Political movie? a road more or something else?

It's that time again, Podcast time with The Chronicle film Podcast. For Episode 028 Paul and Clotilde review Hirokazu Kore-eda's Monster and Oscar nominated animation Robot Dreams.

After a slightly longer wait between the previous episode (027) due to illness business returns to normality. We first start things off in Japan with Kore-eda's power drama thriller Monster. Who is the monster? The film stars Kore-eda regular Sakura Ando whom we last saw in Godzilla Minus One. She is a single mother who knows something is wrong with her son who is acting strangely. When she learns, this is because of his school teacher, she confronts the school. We do see the film from three different perspectives: the mother, the son and the teacher.

Who said Animation was just for kids? Who said it has to be gritty and violent? Watch the oscar nominated Robot Dreams directed by Pablo Berger, based on Sara Varon's graphic novel of the same name. We go back to the 1980's and Manhattan, we follow Dog who builds himself a robot companion . After a day trip to the nearby beach Dog is forced to abandon his new friend will the pair ever reunite?
