    The Climate Report for 7/1/25 features an interview with Shirley Freriks, a local mover and shaker with the Nevada County chapter of Climate Action Now and their Waste Not group.

    She’s here to talk about Plastic-Free July and its theme of microplastics, as well as a couple of events bookending the month:

    - First is the kick off event for Plastic-Free July that happened on June 29th at the Madelyn Helling Library in Nevada City, featuring speaker Professor Kenneth Moore.

    - Then a celebratory event takes place July 23rd at 4:30pm at the Gold Vibe Kombuchary in Grass Valley, with fun and engaging ways to celebrate making a difference, including local nonprofits such as SYRCL.

    It’s been three months since we lasted talked, so we chat with Jan about what Sierra Energy Reimagined has been up to, as well as touch on future events like next week’s presentation to the county Board of Supervisors and another upcoming “home energywise” community workshop, offering free access to expert advice on how the local community can use less energy and keep costs down.
