The Hamilcast: A Hamilton Podcast

By: Gillian Pensavalle
  • Summary

  • In this podcast about all things Hamilton, host Gillian Pensavalle speaks with guests, and sometimes co-host/all time husband Michael Paul Smith, about the innerworkings of the show, how it came together, what it takes to put on all around the world, finding Hamilton references in everyday life, and much more. The Hamilcast has played host to every member of the original creative team, aka "The Cabinet", including repeat visits from Hamilton creator, Lin-Manuel Miranda. The Hamilcast features interviews with cast members from every Hamilton tour, Broadway, and UK company--crew members, musicians, creatives, and the hard working people behind-the-scenes that keep the production alive. Plus: historians, super fans, celebrity Hamilton enthusiasts, and group cast recordings! When I started this podcast in January of 2016, I could not have imagined the incredible community that has grown around the show and the amazing experiences that have come my way. Thank you to everyone who has listened, appeared on the show, contributed, or reached out in any way. This podcast is for you and I absolutely love making it. • #428: Alexis Hasbrouck // Swing on Hamilton's North American Tour // Part Two
    Jul 29 2024

Alexis Hasbrouck (a swing on the North American tour of Hamilton) is back for round two! This week Alexis talks about joining Hamilton's well established tour which was equal parts incredible and terrifying, and explains how her brain processes all the details a swing needs to know. You'll also hear about the once in a lifetime trip she and some casemates took to Alaska where they saw all kinds of wildlife, kayaked by a glacier in a torrential downpour, and most importantly THEY WENT DOGSLEDDING! And speaking of dogs, on this podcast we *do* talk about Bruno (Alexis's adorable rescue pup). Plus, Alexis takes questions from the Patreon Peeps and talks more about tour life and the people who inspire her.

  • #427: Alexis Hasbrouck // Swing on Hamilton's North American Tour // Part One
    Jul 22 2024

Alexis Hasbrouck is currently a swing on the North American tour of Hamilton and my guest for the next two episodes! Alexis has been dancing since she was three years old, studying absolutely everything: ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, pointe, musical theatre dance, contemporary, lyrical, you name it.

This week, Alexis talks about the musical theatre program at Rider University (which she loved!) and taking a year off to do Cats on the Royal Caribbean Oasis cruise ship. By the time Alexis was ready to finish her last semester, COVID hit and her whole college experience moved online. While Alexis waited for the entertainment industry to open back up she found her second true love: teaching elementary school special education, which she hopes to return to someday.

After leaving what Alexis describes as a very toxic atmosphere doing Cats, she joined the first national tour of Moulin Rouge and had an incredible time. She was so thrilled to be a part of it, she learned everything she could, and she never took a second of it for granted. All the while, Hamilton kept calling...

  • #426: Alex Nicholson // Standby on the Philip Tour // Part Three
    Jul 15 2024

Today I’m wrapping up with the Philip Tour’s Alex Nicholson. Alex covers Alexander Hamilton, Aaron Burr, Mulligan/Madison, King George III, and George Washington. He’s performed with Hamilton on Broadway, all over the country with the And Peggy and Philip Tours, and the show even gave him his first professional credit in his home country of Canada.

This week, Alex talks about the full experience of being on tour with Hamilton including going from the And Peggy tour to joining the Philip Tour, spending a few months in Chicago as Man 6 and doing a Burr Bootcamp (and going to amazing restaurants), and how he realized he absolutely loves being a full time standby.

Great podcast for all the Hamilfans

I accidentally stumbled upon this podcast and I can’t stop listening to it. Through all the episodes shines the love not just for Hamilton but for Broadway, (musical) theatre, and all the hard work that goes into any production. Great guests and Gillian is always very well prepared and enthusiastic! I’m not really the type of person to listen to many podcasts but I can’t stop listening to the Hamilcast
