Please take a moment to listen to this important conversation about caring for our loved ones who hoard. We are frequently called upon to assist those that have caused us a lot of trauma and damage with their hoarding and underlying mental health issues.

It is a daunting task to take on and often we have to release our traditional roles in order to manage the task at hand.

We talk quite a bit about how hard this can be for us as caregivers and ways to remember we matter too.

  • Ceci Garrett - Healing is a Journey
    Feb 2 2023

Ceci Garrett is a determined and caring survivor who has a deep awareness of what it’s like to support a Parent Who Hoards (PWH). She also has been featured on the show “Hoarders” and shares about that experience from her perspective.

That experience highlighted the need for resources for the adult children who are navigating PWH’s home and mental health issues. This resulted in the Parents Who Hoard Workbook. This resource takes adult children through a series of questions to help them recognize and be prepared adequately to intervene (or possibly to choose NOT to) in their parent's hoarding issues.

Ceci Garrett, MSW, LSWAIC, is a clinical social work associate in the state of Washington who specializes in hoarding disorder. She works with individuals who have an abundance of possessions and struggle to let go of accumulated items. Her work includes working with couples, adult children, and other loved ones looking to set healthy boundaries with their loved one who hoards.

She has been working with this population since 2012 and has been featured in the Spokesman Review, TedXSpokane, blogged at Huffpost, and presented at several conferences about the experiences of growing up with a parent who hoards (PWH).

You can learn more about Ceci here and also download the Parents Who Hoard Workbook to explore your options when deciding whether or not to assist your loved one.

Please take a listen and know you do not have to face hoarding alone!
