The Homi-LAY

By: LAY DUDE
  • Summary

  • Homi-LAY is a play on the word Homily, which is what most would refer to as the sermon during a Catholic Mass.Typically, it is the responsibility of the Priest or Deacon to deliver the Homily each Sunday at the Mass, and they generally do a wonderful job!For this Podcast I have 3 goals in mind:1. To allow a space for those who attend Mass regularly yet become quickly distracted during the readings and Homily due to various things (i.e. kids, quiet readers/sound systems, the "big game" coming up, etc.) to focus and listen to the readings each week BEFORE they enter the Mass.2. To bring to you a perspective on the readings each week from someone who is just like you, a regular Mass goer, not attached or employed by the church and is curious and interested in the relevance of Jesus's words in today's world! My wife and I regularly discuss the daily and weekly readings and their potential impact on those who should listen well, and I want to share that with anyone who thirsts for faith conversations!3. I'd like to show Christians of all denominations that as Catholics, we DO read the bible, in fact, we read it every day and every week and that they're more than welcome to partake in the daily readings provided by the church. It's the same bible! Let's all have a conversation about it!Note: I am pretty blunt, I cuss sometimes, and realize that the many things I will accuse "us" or "people" of doing, are things I'm as guilty of as anyone in doing! I'm not going to say whatever I think you want to hear just to get a view, I want to challenge you and myself in our Faith! The result may sometimes seem mean and accusatory, and i'm ok with that! Please don't let the deliverer of the message jade the message itself. Lets talk! I'm willing to see both good and bad comments!

Today's post Sunday Homilay will be all about those famous words... "I am the way and the truth and the life."  What could this possibly mean for us?  How could this possibly mean for or to us? What should we DO in response?....I don't know for sure, and I don't know if what I tell you is correct, but we'll get it out and on the table for sure and see where it takes us!

The voice of our Shepard is one that we all should recognize above all others, even in a crowd of many "shepards" (i.e. culture, "common knowledge", "conventional wisdom", etc.).  We must always keep our sword sharp in order to fend off the voices of those who wish to lead us astray, steal us, and ultimately doom us.  Tune in this week to the after sunday episode for some insight on this...
