  • S5 Ep. 3: Discussing Natural Womanhood With Your Daughters with Jackie Aguilar
    Aug 30 2024
Have you been inspired to become the genius of your own hormones? If the answer is yes, then you likely have wondered, how do I pass this incredible information to my daughter? We are talking to Jackie Aguilar of Natural Womanhood today to discuss this very question! We know that it is important for preteen women to believe that their body is beautiful, good and that the menstrual cycle is something to celebrate, not resent. It is also a vital sign of our health and the sooner young women are in tune with the ins and outs of tracking their hormones and their cycles, the more likely they are able to be an advocate for their health. We are going to be discussing a new program for (Pre)Teens which will educate and inspire our daughters. Natural Womanhood developed the Mothers of (Pre) Teens online course to flip this script by informing and empowering moms like you to raise our next generation of young women to be happy, healthy, and comfortable in their female bodies. The goal of this program is to learn accurate information, feel healthy, in control, beautiful, and have open conversations with you, Jackie Aguilar is the Director of Education for Natural Womanhood. "I have endometriosis and adenomyosis, which has fueled my need to advocate for women with chronic pain conditions. • S4 Ep. 35: PCOS vs HA: The Difference Between These Two Common Disorders
    Jul 20 2024
Have you lost your period? Are you very irregular and not sure what the underlying reasons for having either NO periods, or are super irregular? This episode of The Hormone Genius will no doubtedly help you get to the underlying problem. Teresa Kenney WHNP is going to give you a deep dive into two conditions, PCOS & HA. These are two of the most common underlying women's health disorders that cause a lack of ovulation, and therefore a lack of menstrual periods! You may have heard about PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), but Jamie & I are guessing you know less about HA (hypothalamic amenorrhea). Oftentimes, these 2 diagnoses present with similar symptoms and even your doctor may be confused on which one you have! So we will break down the differences so you can be a true advocate for your health and figure out how to get your missing periods back. PCOS is the most common endocrine disorder in women between the ages of 15 to 45, so many times it is a quickly slapped on diagnosis. However, HA is also very common, and accounts for over a 1/3rd of cases of secondary amenorrhea. Both of these conditions have different underlying causes, and both can be treated with a root cause holistic approach. Both PCOS & HA have health consequences if not treated; so if your period has been irregular or missing, you truly want to find the right health care professional to get your period back and healthy! • S4 Ep. 24: Fibroids and Uterine Polyps & Options To Manage Them
    Jul 10 2024
Fibroids affect over 26 million women in the U.S. and by the time a woman is 50, over 70% of white females, and 84% of black females will have one! More than half of these 26 million women will experience associated symptoms with having fibroids in the uterus, causing disruption in quality of life and healthcare costs as well. Today Jamie & Teresa will look into what fibroids are, and how would you know that you have one? What things do you need to consider in the management of fibroid tumors? The good news is, first of all, they are always benign and not cancerous, but they do sometimes take medical and surgical management and a woman may need to decide which options are best for her. Polyps are an overgrowth of endometrial stroma cells that grow within the uterine cavity. They affect about 10% of all women and can happen throughout the reproductive life of a woman, but their peak incidence is from 40 to 50 years of age. They are mostly benign, but in rare cases can be precancerous growths. They are often identified due to the abnormal bleeding they cause for women. About 29% of the time polyps can spontaneously regress, but many times have to be removed through a simple surgical procedure called a polypectomy. We cannot fully go through all the options for surgical management because we are not doctors on the hormone genius podcast, but Jamie will ask nurse practitioner Teresa Kenney to help us go through the basics of this women's health issue and have a good overview of what to expect in having this condition One question that Teresa did not know the answer to during the recording of this podcast, but then found out later, is whether she has a fibroid. Interestingly, Teresa looked at a recent ultrasound and found out that she does! It is small and it doesn't have any impact on her health, but it was something that she was unaware of until she took a deep dive into the issue of fibroids on the Hormone Genius Podcast. We hope you continue to enjoy the content on this podcast. Please, like & share our podcast with your friends & family. Please follow us on social media too! Lastly, reviews are amazing and we would love for you to leave us one on the podcast platform of your listening pleasure! Thanks for all your love and support. • S4 Ep. 32: Hormone Therapy from Perimenopause to Menopause
    Jun 26 2024
Do you feel like you are in the dark when it comes to understanding perimenopause to menopause? Like many areas of the woman's body and her health, there has been a lack of education and support to women. This is true of women going through the transition to stopping their menstrual cycles for good. The good news is more noise is being made about this topic, and we want to join the conversion on The Hormone Genius podcast today and dive into the questions you have about perimenopause and menopause. Jamie and Teresa will discuss this particular transition towards ovarian quiescence; including the common symptoms of perimenopause to menopause, and the options for treatment. Jamie & Teresa will review some of the questions you sent in for us to answer on this particular episode, including themes around weight gain and menopause mood symptoms, hormone therapy, and so much more! One of the most common concerns is whether women should take hormone replacement therapy. This has been a controversial issue for sure, but we will give you a renewed sense of hope in this area of women's health. The great news is that hormones can continue to help womens bodies through menopause and beyond. Hormones have benefits to our quality of life as women, but they also have health and longevity benefits as well. We will take a look at all of these options and also help you focus on becoming the best version of yourself at 45, at 55, 65 and beyond, because that is what we all want is to be healthy and vital for as long as we can on this great earth. We will look also at the Women's Health Initiative and the unfortunate reality that this large study was misintepreted, and therefore has not given women appropriate informed consent around the decision of using hormone replacement therapy. Hopefully, we will give you a new look at this issue giving you more information, so you feel more confident in talking to your doctor/healthcare professional.
