  • Earth Day Everyday (and a Spring Bucket List!)
    Apr 22 2024

As people who have been created by God, we have a unique opportunity to have a hands-on, intimate role in cultivating sacred places on this earth. 🌍 We also have the choice and ability to contribute to desecration if we so wish. Which will it be?

Let's explore HOW we can we take seriously the great privilege we’ve been given to tend and cultivate good things on this earth - not just on Earth Day (April 22nd), but as a way we live our lives all the time. This episode is chock-full of inspiration and ideas for you to do just that, right where you are.

I also include some spring bucket list items and resources so you can take some intentional steps to soak up all the beauty of this season. Don’t miss it! 🌿

  • Nourishing Your Family & Community with Sophia Eng
    Feb 29 2024

Join me as I chat with Sophia Eng, a first-generation Vietnamese American, sought-after speaker, podcast host, and author of the brand new, beautiful cookbook, The Nourishing Asian Kitchen. She’s also one of my fellow Tennessee farmers! Sophia recently left a successful Silicon Valley career to start a 5-acre permaculture mini farm with her family in east Tennessee in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains. 🌄

As a busy, full-time working mom and homesteader, Sophia Eng is making nourishing, simple Asian recipes doable for anyone. 🍜 As Sophia says, “If I can do it, you can do it. It starts with one recipe at a time.”

In this episode, you’ll go on a journey with Sophia from urban California to a homestead in East Tennessee and hear how her Vietnamese heritage guided her along the way as she wrote her cookbook and started a farm. As she shares the powerful steps she took to turn her family towards land stewardship, nourishment, and community, you’ll be empowered to implement some of these practices in your own life and home.

Some of the topics we talk about:

    • Taking risks & living boldly

    • Multi-generational living & preserving family heritage

    • How to prepare for the future through healthy food & lifestyle choices

    • Why bartering and trading are practices we need to keep alive

    • “The beautiful web of being in community” and why it’s important

LISTEN IN, and let Sophia inspire you to nourish yourself and your family well, starting today! 💚

  • The No-Edit Life with Steven Bailey (part 4)
    Feb 17 2024

He’s back! Once again, there are NO EDITS and no plan for what to talk about! 🫢

Join me for another fun conversation with inspiring entrepreneur and incredible chef, my fellow farmer and adventurer, my husband, Steven Bailey. On the evening of a date night at home, Steven and I sit down to chat together again in the studio here on Kindred Farm about the joys and challenges of the huge building project we’re currently in the midst of, and so much more. What we share in this freestyle convo is what you get to hear!

A few of the things we discuss in this episode…

    • Carrying the weight of responsibility for a big dream project

    • How you can approach the “big barn project” in your own life

    • The opportunity to leave a legacy through what we create here on earth

    • Why Steven loves developing his artisan pizza recipes and why we want to offer more dinners, classes, and pizza experiences in the near future

There’s no shortage of creativity, but how do two dreamers dial in what we’re actually going to do in this new, incredible space we’re building? Join us as we figure it all out! 💛

Steven Bailey is a private chef, regenerative farmer, menu-creator, and farm-to-table consultant. Raised by a mother from the rice fields of South Korea and a father who grew up on a North Carolina tobacco farm, Chef Steven Bailey (a.k.a. The Korean Farmer) has been trained by his taste buds and unique Korean/Southern cultural heritage rooted in food and agriculture. As a private chef for his weekly clients and special occasion dinners, Steven crafts creative and inspiring food - from kimchi tacos to hand cut pappardelle, and everything in between. Steven attended Baylor University in Waco, TX, where he began cooking and baking and was probably the only guy in his fraternity to own a Kitchen Aid Mixer. Right out of college and living in Dallas, Steven started a missions travel company called 963 Missions and a fair-wage coffee company before founding Urban Acres, an organic produce co-op, market, and urban farm, in 2009. After selling Urban Acres in 2015, he moved his family to the rolling green hills of Santa Fe, Tennessee where they broke ground and began Kindred Farm.

  • "Root To Rise"
    Feb 8 2024

This episode is one of my favorites! “Root to rise” is a phrase that my yoga instructor always used to say, and I’ve never forgotten it. What’s beneath the surface - the roots - are just one part of the story. We root so we can rise strong above the surface. In this episode, I share inspiring and practical ideas from farming and gardening on why strong roots are so important, and we explore how rising strong is such an important part of rootedness.

Let's choose wisely what we're rooting ourselves in, because it determines how healthy our roots are going to be…and where our story is going to go.

  • Birth & (Re)birth: Celebrating the Strength of Women with Sarah Ford
    Jan 18 2024

No matter what our story is, at some point we all must learn to choose our hard, hold things loosely, and surrender.

Join me for a conversation with my wondrous friend Sarah Ford - birth doula and aspiring midwife, owner of (Re)birthing Wellness and Held Postpartum, and lover of all things health and wellness. This episode is packed with inspiration for every woman, whether you’ve birthed or not, whether it’s been awhile, or even if you had a difficult birth experience.

Sarah Ford’s passion for birth began as a homeschooled 11-year-old when she witnessed the home birth of one of her siblings. After starting her own business and attending her first birth as a doula at age 16 (!), she soon began official doula training with a midwife. Since then, Sarah has been serving families all over Tennessee as a doula and midwife-in-training and says, “I will never get over this work I get to do!”

In her gentle but powerful way, Sarah shares about:

    • How homeschooling helped her find her career path

    • Her perspective about natural birth

    • Body image and the power of women’s bodies

    • The importance of community

    • Her top nourishing practices for health and wellness

    • …And so much more

This episode is a celebration of all women and the strength we possess.

  • A Messy Beautiful Year
    Jan 10 2024

Let’s kick “new year, new you” to the curb - instead of neat, tidy goal lists, let’s approach the new year another way. How about just be yourself this year, but healthier and more rooted in what matters most? How about instead of perfection, we embrace the messiness of life and find the beauty in that?

In this episode, we talk about how to distinguish between the messes that DO need to be cleaned up in our homes, families, jobs, relationships, souls…and which ones are holy messes - signs of our beautiful humanity.

Let’s walk into the new year not by adopting passing fads or trends but by adding new facets to our lives that are nourishing for the long haul.

Down here in the mess, there is growth through struggle, and perhaps that’s the most lasting kind.
