The Last Frontier Podcast

De: Daniel Meuninck Andrew Smith
  • Resumen

  • Your two hosts of this podcast work as professional guides in the Alaskan outdoor tourism industry and started this podcast as a fun way to keep busy during the pandemic summer of 2020. With uncertainty in what employment might look like, Danny and Andrew still wanted to share the beauty of Alaska with people and this podcast was a good way to achieve that goal. Alaska is an incredible place everybody should put on their destination bucket list. Each episode opens with a beer review highlighting a local Alaskan brewery and then tackles a different topic relating to what makes Alaska such a unique place in the world. With all the fun being had drinking Alaskan brews and sharing fascinating information about the Last Frontier State, what started as a fun short term project has morphed into a long term endeavor. With this decision, investments were made in much better production equipment and the sound quality drastically improves starting in Phase II of the podcast with Episode 17 (Feb 21, 2021 release date). We hope you enjoy the content and strongly encourage you to visit Alaska in the future!

  • Antarctica: Alaska's Alaska
    Jun 23 2024

Antarctica has several nicknames including the research continent, the ice and even Alaska's Alaska. On today's episode, we delve into another part of the globe that is home to the midnight sun. Friend of the pod Zeke Churchill is back on the program to share his experience of spending the austral summer working in Antartica and how it compares and contrasts to the Last Frontier. What does the name Antarctica mean? Why has beer never been brewed on the continent? And why did Zeke wear a suit for his job?! It's the episode that has way too many references to exotic dancers!

  • Alaskan Brewery Spotlight: Stoney Creek Brewhouse
    Jun 9 2024

With the first half of every episode dedicated to reviewing an Alaskan craft beer as a way to support our local Alaskan breweries, it's about time we invited a brew master on the podcast. On today's episode, we chat with Greg Haas who is the owner of Stoney Creek Brewhouse in Seward, Alaska to get his insights on what it means to brew beer in the Last Frontier. What is the craft beer scene like in Alaska? How does community play a role in making a good beer. And does Greg prefer to go by Brew Fella, Brew Master or Brew God?! It's the episode we got free beer for!
