  • 'Taking up your space' with Shaunagh Brown
    Nov 2 2023
Today host Kelly is joined by a very special guest ex-England international and star of Harlequins club rugby, Shaunagh Brown. Shaunagh is an inspiring individual and comes to The Reset Room to talk about the importance of 'taking up your space'. This is something she knows all too well about having to make her way in women's rugby, coming to it relatively late following a career in athletics. Shaunagh talks to Kelly about the challenges she met and why she feels it's so important to be yourself, no matter how different you feel to those around you. She also talks about not being afraid to speak your mind and be yourself in any forum you're in. Recently becoming an ambassador for Raleigh International has given Shaunagh another opportunity to encourage young people to be themselves, push themselves out of their comfort zone and learn how to become leaders. Raleigh International organise organise journeys and experiences for young people through volunteering in places like Costa Rica and South Africa. Their aim is to develop young adults into global citizens and leaders whilst having a positive impact on the communities they work in. Thanks for listening. Learn more about your ad choices. • Physical actions to improve the mind with Professor Brendon Stubbs
    Oct 26 2023
On this special episode of The Reset Room we are pleased to be joined by Professor Brendon Stubbs an expert in the field of physical activity, mental health and the mind-body interface. Professor Stubbs is Head of Physiotherapy at the South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust and Clinical Lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at Kings College London. He is one of the most cited researchers in the world and his research has been featured in publications like the New York Times, TIME magazine and Forbes.  Professor Stubbs and host Kelly discuss the abundance of evidence that supports the theory that being physically activity can benefit our mental health. For example, he tells us about one study where participants were randomly allocated either running 3 times a week or antidepressants - results showed the physical exercise had the same positive impact on depressive symptoms over a four month period. He tells us this approach can be particularly helpful as there aren't any of the potential side effects that could be associated with taking medication. He also tells us about studies around diet and how reducing or removing highly processed foods and adopting a mediterranean style diet could also be very beneficial for mental health based on research in the area. Join us to hear much more on how upping your physical activity can be life changing. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
