While largely on his own, Erik battled addiction, was jailed at 18, and went bankrupt at 21. Erik turned his life around by working retail jobs and becoming a manager at Starbucks. At Starbucks, he met his future wife! Erik eventually went into sales and has now fully transitioned to being an insurance salesman, podcast host, and coach.

• Erik was raised in a broken home, battled addictions, was jailed at 18, bankrupt at 21 only to turn everything around.
• Eric worked several retail jobs and eventually became a manager at Starbucks!

In this episode, we spend time with Joel Friedland! Joel is a commercial Real Estate broker that specializes in industrial space. After working as a broker for several years, Joel realized that the path to wealth in not just making a commission on a sale but by being the actual owner of the property. Since then, Joel has acquired many industrial properties and does so often without debt.

A bit more about Joel:

• Joel has a 42-year track record in industrial real estate. Joel co-founded Epic/Savage Realty Partners in 1991 where he oversaw hiring and mentoring 60 industrial real estate professionals, many of whom became his partners. Joel’s group sold the firm to an international real estate company in 2014 and Joel started Brit Properties.
• As an industrial real estate broker and owner, Joel has secured over 2,000 industrial property leases and sales, totaling over $2 billion in brokerage volume and $250 million in acquisitions. Joel’s greatest accomplishment is maintaining valued relationships with brokers, tenants, and investors spanning five decades.
• Joel does fully syndicated deals, often with 0% debt, an unheard-of approach in real estate that caters to his wealthy investor base primarily concerned with the conservation of principal. Joel’s experiences during the Great Recession in 2008 shaped his investment approach to be hyper-conservative while still allowing an ~8% cash return, plus upside, for his investors.
• Joel attended the University of Michigan. He enjoys playing golf and spending time with his family, particularly his 3 young grandchildren.
