In the first part of this episode, Dr Christian Edwards (Director of the Sport Coaching Hub) and Prof Robyn Jones (Professor of Sport and Social Theory) chatted with Dr Manuel Santos (Lecturer in Sport Coaching) about the origin of the Hub. Later, Manuel, Oli Lum (Lecturer in Sport Coaching) and Mike Castle (Learning Developer) sat down to introduce you to the podcast.

  • An Interview with Professor Robyn Jones

    Mike Castle and Oli Lum interviewed Professor Robyn Jones (Professor of Sport and Social Theory). In this conversation, Robyn was kind enough to share some personal stories while looking at the field of Sport Coaching with his distinguishing critical gaze. He looked back at his first coaching experiences, took us back to Mississippi where he attained his doctoral degree, his time in Bath University and more recently, about the creation of the Doctorate in SC at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

    Mike Castle interviewed Dr Kerry Harris (Senior Lecturer in Sport Coaching and Director of Women’s Football) and Jen Larrick (doctoral candidate). With a vast experience in coaching Women’s Football, Kerry and Jen took us back to their first coaching experiences, shared their journey into academia, and their views on the current landscape of research in coaching and gender. Plus, they both deconstructed some common misconceptions about coaching female teams.

  • WRU Women in High Performance Programme with Dr. Sofia Santos and Catrina Nicholas-McLaughlin

    Mike Castle interviewed Dr Sofia Santos (Senior Lecturer in Sport Coaching) and Catrina Nicholas-McLaughlin (WRU) about the Women in High Performance Coaching Programme (WHPCP). Sofia and Catrina shared their journeys into coaching and discussed the gendered issues present in the coaching realm. These served as the basis for the creation of the WHPCP, where Sofia shared her experience leading the programme, and Catrina provided her insight as a participant.

  • Humor in Sports Coaching with Dr. Christian Edwards and Emlyn Lewis

    Oli Lum sat down with Christian Edwards and Emlyn Lewis. Christian is the director of the SC Hub at Cardiff Met and the director of Football and Emlyn is a Lecturer in Sport Coaching at Cardiff Met. The interview revolved around Christian’s 2018 article, focused the use of humor in SC. During the episode, Christian explained how he sees humor as a sociological tool, and broke down the concept of ‘inclusionary putdowns’ while sharing some fun stories.
