    The Olympic Movement - History of the Ancient and Modern Games The Olympic Games have a rich history that spans thousands of years. The ancient Olympic Games were held in Olympia, Greece every four years from 776 BC to 393 AD to honor the god Zeus. The games were a celebration of the Greek gods that lasted five days and included athletic competitions, artistic activities, and sacrifices. Some of the sports that were part of the ancient games are still included in the modern Summer Games, such as the marathon and the triathlon, and the ancient games also included artistic activities like music, poetry, singing, and theater. The ancient games had few rules, including no biting or eye gouging, and competitors fought until one gave up or died. There were also no weight classes or time limits. One famous event was the Hoplite, where runners raced while wearing full armor. The Romans banned the games after conquering Greece in the second century BC, but they were revived in 1896 in Athens, Greece by Baron Pierre de Coubertin, a Frenchman who founded the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in 1894. The first modern games featured 43 events and 280 participants from 12 countries. Since 1994, the Summer and Winter Olympics have been held every two years, alternating between the two.     Paris Olympics PREVIEW 2024 - The Sports Guyz - Episode 25

    Check out our podcast where we talk about the Paris 2024 Olympics which are kicking off this week. Competition starts on July 24th and the Opening Ceremonies are Friday, July 26th. We are very excited about this amazing festival of international sports every 4 years - and here to support Team USA and all the great athletes to compete at the highest levels. We review some history behind the Olympics and take a brief look at the last 2 times Paris hosted these games in 1900 and 1924.

    We discuss how Paris, France is very important to us as a family, since we spent our high school years in the city, and it is incredibly exciting to us that these Olympics are being held in this vibrant city! We go over some of the events in this year's Olympics we are most looking forward to, as well as some of the new events to look out for. We also go over the USA and international athletes to look out for, and who are favored to win medals.
