The ZZ Top stiff that gets played more nowadays than ANY of their actual hits. Lame white yuppie soul! The song that ended Whitney Houston's incredible streak of seven consecutive #1 hits. The weakest of all the Hall & Oates hits. The real reason Keith Sweat sounded so WHINY. The 1st rap "feature" to hit the pop top 10. The project that c-blocked a Beastie Boys masterpiece. It's "This Week In The 80s", Episode #49- all the songs that peaked in popularity - the 2nd week of August! Is "Star Wars" the most overrated movie franchise of all-time. Yes. Yes it is! Why were Duran Duran jealous of....Kajagoogoo? The 2 biggest hits from both "Ghostbusters" movies. Elton John hawks designer jeans. My first rap record. Was Freddie Jackson... a racist??? Belinda Carlisle just says "YES". Why did Rod Stewart hate one of his biggest 80s hits? U2's love/hate relationship with America. George Michael gets BANNED from radio! Two early 60s dance hits get another shot in 1988. PLUS - was THIS the strangest song to hit #1, perhaps... EVER??? All that and more. Over 2 hours of incessant babbling about 80 pop music. The series is almost done. Share, subscribe and tell a friend. I'm getting my ass kicked in the podcast wars! Thanks for listening! #TWIT80s

    Aug 10 2020
It's August...and we're talking about all the songs that peaked in popularity on the American pop music charts, "This Week In The 80s". Including two of John Lennon's favorite radio hits from the summer of 1980. Things start to happen for Rick Springfield. John Cougar goes with his gut. We'll take a quick diversion from the music and run down the top 5 movies of 1983. Mick Jagger's Michael Jackson obsession. Which was better "Breakin'" or "Beat Street?" The Duran Duran solo hit that rips off... the Bellamy Brothers??? A #1 song so lame even Glenn Frey (RIP) turned it down. Added bonus: My critically acclaimed Jeff Goldbum impression. It's uncanny! Only 4 more episodes left??? Is that right??? Whoa! Thanks for listening! #TWIT80s.

  • #47: The 16 year old prostitute who OD'd and got Don Henley arrested
    Jul 27 2020
2 hours of non-stop chatter about all the songs that peaked in popularity on the American pop music charts the final week of July... "This Week In The 80s". We'll connect the dots from Michael Jackson to neil of "The Young Ones". The #1 American classic that almost got c-blocked thanks to Sylvester Stallone. The insane behind-the-scenes drama on the set of a Fleetwood Mac video. A Prince stiff gets re-released...and rightfully becomes a hit. Rod Stewart plays... Sun City?!? Not one, but two big landmarks for Whitney Houston. We'll check our mandatory Hall & Oates box with an obscure album track that becomes a big #1 hit remake. All of the artists that turned DOWN "Danger Zone" before Kenny Loggins. Barry Manilow goes clubbin' in the 80s. The song that kept "Pour Some Sugar On Me" from hitting #1. And... Oh yeah... and that time Don Henley got arrested all because of a 16 year old prostitute that OD'd at his house. All that and yes... MORE! Another fun-filled, trivia packed edition of "This Week In The 80s". Thank you for listening! #TWIT80s.

Ah, the good ol' days. Lots of Dorky Dad Rock (and some Dorky Dad Funk too!). PLUS - "Tainted Love" strikes America! "Wikki Wikki Wikki". It's "This Week In The 80's". It's "This Week In The 80s", Episode #45. Is this 1981 stiff the rarest 45 to hit the charts in ANY decade? We'll discuss the most played song in the history of radio!
