Toxic Individualism and Spiritual Poverty

  • Resumen

  • The values of rugged individualism, willful self-reliance and of being “self-made” run deep in American culture, and they have a long and storied history. But how do these values align with Christian values? How has the “American Dream” impacted the culture and norms within American churches, and have they led to a diminishment of our individual and collective spiritual lives?

In this episode of Even here, we explore the prominence of toxic individualism and its role in our culture’s apparent spiritual poverty. We speak with four guests who have theological, social and practical perspectives to share on how our American way of life has coexisted alongside Christianity for more than two centuries.
