• SSS Ep4 Creating Safe Spaces For Trauma Healing
    Oct 19 2022

EP 4 of The Safe Space Sessions

HEALING TRAUMA BY BUILDING SAFES SPACES

Events cause trauma because our basic survival instincts tell us we are unsafe and if we never have the time & space to process the event, then our bodies will keep us reliving that trauma until it knows it is safe!

So creating a safe space for your mindbody to heal is absolutely critical to stopping these survival cycles, so you can begin living and thriving.

This takes time, it is a process & in this episode I am going to share with you my personal experiences & what I have learnt, in the hope it may help you along your own journey.

So if you are on a healing journey of your own & you are learning what it means to feel safe, this episode was made with you in mind!

  • Rob's story of transformation - from a public suicide attempt to a live stage show.
    Jun 29 2022

Rob Mokaraka is an actor/writer who had a public mental and spiritual breakdown in Point Chevalier, Auckland, New Zealand - 2009. In the storm of suicidal ideation, Rob provoked the police to shoot him dead on the street, outside his house. He ignored the warning from police and took another step, which resulted in him being shot in the chest at close range. After multiple surgeries, multiple court cases, multiple therapies, 7yrs later Rob created a tool for healing and educating communities and organisations about mental wellbeing, suicide prevention and after care when someone you love has taken their life. His theatre show/seminar is called, Shot Bro - Confessions Of A Depressed Bullet, which is invited around Australasia.

You can watch more of his story in his documentary here

  • Surviving Epstein - With Jess Michaels
    May 19 2022

**TRIGGER WARNING** Talk of Sexual Abuse & R*pe.

Jess Michaels is an accomplished dancer with 30 years experience as a dance industry professional, educator and entrepreneur.

She is also a survivor of sexual assault by Jeffrey Epstein in 1991 and childhood sexual abuse.

Unexpectedly, her healing journey began almost 20 years later, on December 14, 2012, after her hometown of Newtown CT was devastated by the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. In 2015,

Jess joined Dylan’s Wings of Change, a foundation dedicated to Dylan Hockley, one of the first-grade victims in the shooting.
It was there, in her hometown, teaching dance classes and working alongside the brave parents who had lost their children,

Jess began to connect the value of shame-free, community-based early trauma intervention to the needs of sexual assault survivors.

Her message normalizes a proactive, empowered emergency response to SA equipping us to effectively prepare for—rather than react to—one of society's most common, catastrophic crimes while advancing healing, justice and prevention.
