    Day 1. Checking up on her girlfriend, Vekeana leaves a voice message for her. They’ve got much to catch up on since Maya’s return from at a silence-retreat. Vekeana explains she’s been isolating with her husband Puneet and brother Vikram for the two weeks prior. Then halfway through the first lockdown that promised to let ups—news came down it’s extended to 21 freakin’ days. Vekeana shares her reaction, plans and rush to get her priorities somewhat straight as the lockdown clamps down. This is one reality check she wished would just bounce.

They would yammer away at each other every day and now it’s strange she hasn’t been able to talk to her BFF in weeks. Vekeana explains being cooped inside and looking out means she has time to contemplate things. It may not be the best use of her energy as she frantically considers symptoms after a food run out in this new world disorder. She endeavors to defy the negativity and go with it… for the most part. She can do this.

    Day 3. She can’t do this, panic sets in. She leaves another frantic message for Maya and complains to her she can’t be that busy, everyone’s at home now. She’s going through a friend withdrawal and its giving her the shakes. In place of her reassuring voice, Vekeana’s bummed by the news headlines which has her considering more than she should and wondering if TMI is an affliction in itself. The lockdown shines bright on her family quirks. She talks about her Chicken Little moment before she’s able to reel it back in.

    Day 4. Vekeana expresses her worry for Maya’s unresponsiveness. She isn’t even posting on Instagram anymore. Vekeana recounts updates from other friends which has made her evaluate her own domestic setup. She’s concerned that Maya’s on her own after her breakup. She switches topic quickly and pushes on to describe that though her family is a mesh of strong personalities at least she’s with who’d she chose to be with. But what if you’re not? She spills on Covid 19 love dilemmas gleaned from friends. It’s the situation that’s making it worse, not the people, right?

    Day 5. Vekeana confronts Maya’s phone with the news she’s heard that that Maya was chatting with a common friend of theirs the other night even though she has yet to answer or return any of Vekeana’s calls. At least from the blue ticks she’s assured that Maya is indeed listening to her messages. It’s frustrating. Vekeana segues into consoling herself about taking control of what you can control which for her means grappling for the remote after a day of WFH. The art of negotiating over what to watch isn’t without conniptions, okay—mostly hers. Keeping herself entertained in the tedium of a lockdown is not without challenges.

    Day 6. Realization is dawning on Vekeana and so she challenges Maya in another voice message to honor her commitment—she can’t be expected to hold up this teetering friendship on her own. She’s going to think better of all this as per her resolutions. Remember those? The year started off with so many self-promises. Inspired by the earnest, if not, irritating attempts to latch on to them around her, Vekeana recounts her past attempts at bettering herself and sees this as an opportunity to turn things around.

    Day 7. Vekeana figures out she’s being ghosted by Maya but doesn’t understand why. She also relates the rough start to her day when Puneet does the unconscionable in Vekeana’s dream and she holds him accountable for it when he wakes up. Abrasiveness continues as three non-sweepers deal with the broom and its startling results. Oh, and Vekeana frets over the broken fridge; the home of the bacon.

    Day 8. Vekeana finds the tedium of Maya’s impassiveness so boring and tells her as much in a message. Clearly she’s mad at her about something. She reminds Maya she never holds a grudge, so she should move on as well. Everything is so tedious now. She knows it was inevitable and she’s smacked right into it-- the tall wall of boredom. Vekeana shares the monotony of her day and her attempts at invigorating it with some freshness. Some were far more successful than most. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
