An American Bard

Spoken words as American as truck stop French Fries. As down home as homemade applesauce. Gritty as nutmeg and cigarettes washed down with Four Roses bourbon. For the fans that crave a deeper quaff set playback to half speed, and double your pleasures. Spend a while your times well set. Good sense is good company in strange days.

It’s like Reading Rainbow for adult who are still creeped out by what’s under the bed.

I’ve been a fan of Tom Waits since I was 12. I’ve never been disappointed in his work. This is no exception. I love it?

This isn’t Tom Waits

I’m not sure why there’s no statement anywhere that this is a parody.
If the creator/actor implied more clearly that they are doing an impression/character of Waits, I’d understand omitting it.
However, they kind of just say things Tom Waits might say but with a mediocre (see 2 stars) impression of him.
Tom Waits is a weird, beloved artist, and a portion of his fanbase can be admittedly annoying and pretentious at times. A good parody is possible, here—even if it’d be pretty niche. The premise is solid. BUT:
Whatever this collection of audio is intended to be, it’s just odd.
It just reads as someone badly pretending to be the real Tom Waits. Like someone who actually wants you to believe that they are Tom Waits for their own fantasy. I’m not saying that’s what it is, but that is what it sounds like.
Furthermore, this property has a Patreon, meaning people could be paying money to someone they believe to be the real Tom Waits.
If you Google “Waits Waits Don’t Tom Me”, it is credited to the real Waits on every site/app you’ll see it streaming on, furthering this confusion.

Somebody please put a disclaimer or make it at least more obvious that this is parody. Tom has some OLD fans that probably wouldn’t see this as an internet parody. I found this searching for biographies about Tom.
