  • University of Chicago - Wave the Flag For Old Chicago
    Mar 8 2024

There is only one full member of the Big Ten Conference that has ever left, and it leaving has remained a permanent what-if in college football. On a very special We Hate Your Fight Song, Eli and Nic discuss the University of Chicago, how innovative the program was, how UChicago’s legacy lives on in Chicago sports and college athletics, and how it became the epicenter for one of the most common fight songs in the country.

  • Miami-OH - Miami Fight/March Song
    Mar 8 2024

Sometimes George Washington tells you to go found a university, and then you do it. In this week’s episode, Eli and Nic cover Miami University (Miami-OH) and discuss Miami Mergers and why it sounds so dirty, the logistics of filling a campus building full of snow, and why Miami University was actually the tipping point (not the starting point) for transitioning away from Native American mascots. There’s also a fight song somewhere in there, too.

Even though Miami University may have purged the Miami Scalp Song off the internet, a vintage recording featured in our outro can be found here: https://archive.org/details/78_scalp-song_miami-university-band-mens-glee-club-a-h-upham-r-h-burke-a-d-lekv_gbia0416985b

  • South Dakota State: Ring the Bell
    Feb 23 2024

This week, Eli and Nic visit the great and totally real state of South Dakota and South Dakota State University. The guys talk about hobo representation, if cows are controlling the universe, and the most prominent herald of one of the most popular fight songs across the country. (And get comfortable - we're gonna be talking about this particular fight song for a while...)

  • Michigan: The Victors
    Feb 16 2024

Did you know that the University of Michigan most likely might have stolen their fight song? We didn’t, either! For their first analysis, Eli and Nic cover the University of Michigan and The Victors. We discuss the origins and disputed authorship of The Victors, wonder why anyone would want Toledo, Ohio enough to start a war, and the hazards of having a live mascot that every professional tells you is a BAD IDEA.
