• Episode 266 Tips to Get the Most Out of Your Next Conference with Janet Falk
    Oct 3 2024

In today’s episode of the Wealthy Woman Lawyer® podcast, I chat with Janet Falk, Ph.D., a Communications professional with more than 30 years of experience in-house as a consultant and at public relations agencies. As Chief Strategist at Falk Communications and Research, Janet advises attorneys at solo and small law firms on media relations and marketing communications to: attract new clients, remain top of mind with prior clients, keep in touch with referral sources, help recruit associates, generate a news story about litigation to put pressure on opposing counsel, and achieve business goals.

Janet leads workshops on media relations, website development, LinkedIn profiles, articles in non-legal industry trade publications, and client newsletters. She has published articles in the New York Law Journal, New Jersey Law Journal, and Marketing the Law Firm, and frequently speaks on webinars and podcasts about public relations, networking, and legal marketing.

Listen in as Janet and I discuss:

    • How Janet helps lawyers and law firms get in the media so they can become more visible to their prospects and referral sources and enhance their credibility and authority
    • Why conferences are great sources for attorneys who want to expand their networks, and deepen their relationships with potential referral sources and collaborators
    • Why it’s critical to prepare before you attend a conference (and HOW to prepare).
    • Exactly what you should be doing during the conference to maximize your experience (including two unique tips to help you stand out in a crowd of hundreds)
    • How to follow-up (there’s a right and wrong way!)
    • And much, much more!

  • Episode 265 The Dumbest Thing I’ve Heard Lately, Part 2
    Sep 19 2024

If you’ll recall, back a few weeks ago, I promised you a series called “The Dumbest Thing I’ve Heard Lately.” Part 1 was published on June 27th, so if you haven’t listened to that, you can go back after you’ve listened to this episode—they are each stand-alone and not in any particular order.

The reason I’m creating this series is because I’m tired of all the bad business advice I keep seeing on these social media streets that people are all too quick to buy into. My intention is to offer you a different perspective to help you decide if certain advice is right for you.

Listen in to hear my thoughts on the most recent “dumb thing” I’ve heard.

  • Episode 263 5 Marketing Methods to Deploy If You Hate Being on Video
    Sep 5 2024

Recently, I was having a conversation with another woman lawyer about marketing options for small law firms, and she shared with me that she did not like seeing herself on video, so it was hard to imagine she would create reels on Instagram or videos for TikTok.

I totally understood! I do not love either seeing myself on video or hearing my recorded voice. And I know we are not alone. It comes up frequently in conversations with other women law firm owners of a certain age!

In this culture where women appear to be valued for youth and beauty, it takes confidence and strong self-esteem to put yourself out there if you think you have passed some kind of imaginary expiration date.

Comparison-it is on social media is not reserved just for people in their teens and 20s. Even those of us with lots of emotional management tools in our toolboxes can get caught up in comparing ourselves and our lives with what we see in our social feeds.

I can tell you all day, every day, that other people are not judging you nearly as hard as you judge yourself, but if you hate being on video, you likely will not really care.

So, I wanted to reassure you that there are other options for marketing your law firm besides becoming an Instagram or TikTok influencer. You don’t have to dance for your supper if the mere thought makes you feel a little sick.

Listen in to hear about five marketing tactics you can start using today to grow your law firm business.

  • Episode 261 Sometimes the Solution is to Slow Down
    Aug 15 2024

You’d think by now after being an attorney and business owner for almost two decades, I would know what I’m about to share with you today. But the one thing I know about life as an entrepreneur and business owner is that there are ALWAYS lessons to be learned. As Abraham Hicks says: “You will never get it done, and you can never get it wrong.”

Why? Because, as human beings, we are always receiving new information and transforming how we think and behave based on that information—yes, even those of us we wouldn’t think ever change are always changing.

Listen in as I share the ah-ha moment I had this week. It surprised me and it may surprise you. If you are a high-achieving woman like me, it may be this is exactly what you need to hear.

  • Episode 260 You Are Checking the Wrong Boxes
    Aug 1 2024

Today’s topic was inspired by a recent conversation I had with a fellow high-achieving woman who is super-productive in her business and loves to check off boxes on her to-do list. In fact, she loves it so much that sometimes, she will write something down on her to-do list after she’s done it, just so she has the pleasure of checking it off!

Boy, I can relate. Can you?

There are documented psychological reasons we, as humans, love to make lists. BUT, did you know your list may be doing you more harm than good as you attempt to scale your law firm business? Listen in to discover more about how you can keep the lists you love, but make them much more powerful tools.
