Did you know that natural gas is completely odorless? On March 18, 1937 the New London School in London, Texas exploded right around 3pm killing 295+ students and faculty as well as injuring 300+ more. This was the most deadly school explosion in united states history and led to the addition of Mercaptans to the final product.

Mercaptans are sulfur-containing compounds primarily used as odorants in natural gas, propane, and other fuel gases to provide a detectable odor for safety purposes.
