    The poem tells the story of Antigonus, a cruel ruler who demanded tolls from passing ships on the Scheldt River. Despite attempts by the Duke of Brabant to stop him, Antigonus continued to terrorize passing merchants until Brabo, a brave man, came up with a plan to defeat him. With Antigonus dead, the toll was abolished, and the city of Antwerp prospered.
