  • Episode 010 genXup - An Interview with pi.ai
    Aug 1 2023
In this genXup episode, we delve into the world of change, artificial intelligence (AI), and the impact of these elements on our lives. Our guest, Pi, a conversational AI, shares insights on navigating these changes, particularly for the Gen X generation.    Key Takeaways   Embracing Change: Change is a constant in life, whether sudden or gradual. Host Grant Porter introduces us to Kurt Lewin's "Three Stages of Change" framework: unfreezing, changing, and refreezing. This simple yet powerful model helps us understand how to adapt to change, from letting go of the familiar to learning new ways of doing things and finally settling into a new normal.    AI in the Entertainment Industry: We discuss the SAG-AFTRA strike and the role of AI in the entertainment industry. The conversation highlights AI's potential benefits and challenges, such as job loss versus new opportunities and lower production costs.    Bertrand Russell's Perspective on War: We explore the philosophical views of Bertrand Russell, a renowned philosopher and writer, on the moral implications of war. Russell argued that the actual cost of war extends beyond immediate suffering and death, affecting the potential for human happiness.    Gen X and AI: For Gen X, the rapid evolution of technology, including AI, presents both opportunities and challenges. Pi advises Gen X listeners to approach AI with an open mind, viewing it as a tool to augment human abilities rather than a threat.    Learn More   Haystack: Revolutionize your hiring process with Haystack's video hiring platform. • Episode 008 genXup - MESSY THREADS: DON’T END UP DEAD
    Feb 1 2023

In episode eight, Grant discusses that a person's life is like an embroidery patch with a front side (the visible and presentable part) and a back side (the messy and hidden part) and it's something we all have.

He shares a recent tragedy in his circle of friends where one of his close friends was found dead, resulting from the backside of his life (problems with drinking) getting unraveled.

Grant reflects on the situation and urges people who may find themselves in a similar situation not to let their life spiral out of control. Encouraging listeners to consider what they want their life to be like and not let themselves end up in a dark place by seeking help and support.

  • Episode 007 genXup - Life on the Water: A sailors journey
    Jan 24 2023

This podcast is an introduction to a sailboat I'm currently in contract for and planning to use as my tiny space living environment to work remotely and travel the world.

The idea for this change came after a personal setback, and I worked through my three-year vision for my life, including working and creating content from a sailboat. I invite you to join me as we inspect the boat, meet the original owner, and hear about his sailing experiences aboard Ariel.

He tells me about how he purchased the boat in 1981 and how he always liked the cabin arrangement but wanted the larger windows available in the older version of the boat. Eventually, he had larger windows installed and he explains that it allows for more cross ventilation and more light and openness. He also shares his sailing trips experiences, including a trip as far south as Manzanillo, Mexico, and up into the Sea of Cortez, and a trip as far north as British Columbia.

    Jan 12 2023

Welcome to the latest episode of GenXup; today we're talking about taking responsibility for our lives.

Before diving in, I want you to repeat this statement: "The moment I accept responsibility for everything in my life is the moment I have the power to change anything in my life." Say it loud; say it proud! Because taking responsibility for our lives can be tough. But trust me, it's worth it.

You know, sometimes we blame others for our circumstances instead of owning up to our actions and decisions. But here's the thing, you have the power to change your life, but it starts with taking responsibility.

Think about it, when you're in control of your life, you're in control of your happiness, success, and future. But it's not always easy. Sometimes it feels like the universe is conspiring against us. But it's not. It's just a test of our resolve, determination, and willingness to take responsibility.

So, I want to challenge you to take a step back and take a good hard look at your life. Are you taking responsibility for your actions and decisions? Do you own up to your mistakes? Are you taking control of your life?

Because, the moment you do, is the moment you'll have the power to change anything. So, go out there, take responsibility, and change your life for the better. And, as always, we'll be here to support you every step of the way. Thanks for tuning in!

  • Episode 004 genXup - Foundation for Success
    Jan 9 2023

Are you ready to level up and become the ultimate version of yourself? In this episode, we're diving into the five key areas that will set the foundation for your success.

First up, let's talk about identifying your superpowers. These unique strengths and abilities come naturally to you and make you feel unstoppable. Don't waste your time on pursuits that don't tap into your superpowers - you deserve to go as far as possible with your natural gifts. So what are your superpowers? Maybe you're a Strategic Dominator with killer problem-solving skills or an Innovative Idea-making Machine who never runs out of creative ideas. Whatever your superpowers are, embrace them to provide the foundation for your three-year vision!

Next, it's all about setting boundaries and priorities. You can't be successful if you're spread thin and burnt out. That's why it's crucial to set limits on your time and energy and focus on the things that matter most to you. Use your X-Level Vision Workbook to map out your three-year vision, then work backward to create a one-year vision and smaller, achievable goals. You'll stay focused and motivated by breaking things down into manageable chunks. And remember to reward yourself along the way! You deserve to enjoy the journey as you become the best version of yourself.

Let's talk about the morning routine that sets you up for success. A consistent daily routine can do wonders for your productivity and well-being. It's all about finding the right balance of habits that work for you and help you start the day off on the right foot. Feel free to experiment and see what works best for you.

Next, we've got to address the importance of a healthy work-life balance. You can't pour from an empty cup, so make sure you're taking care of yourself and finding a balance between your professional and personal commitments. Trust us; burnout is not a good look.

Finally, finding a supportive community is crucial for your success. Surround yourself with people who share your goals and values and can provide encouragement and support as you pursue your vision. Together, you can accomplish so much more.

Remember, these five key areas are the foundation for your success. Embrace your superpowers, set boundaries, and priorities, establish a morning routine, cultivate a healthy work-life balance, and surround yourself with a supportive community.

    Jan 5 2023

Welcome to the New Year, and chances are you're already feeling the pressure of all those resolutions you made.

But here's an idea: Instead of focusing on the short-term, try creating a three-year vision for your life. What does your dream life look like? Where do you live? What do you do for work? Who are you surrounded by? And most importantly, what makes you truly happy?

If you're not sure yet, that's okay – it'll come to you. In the meantime, try eliminating negative noise in your life and letting go of past traumas.

Stop negative self-talk and unhealthy habits, and cut out toxic relationships. Embrace the fear of failure and the unknown, and leave perfectionism behind. Believe in yourself and your abilities, and stop procrastinating. Clear the clutter out of your life and start living in the present.
