This is a parallel to the last chapter where temptation was a manipulator and now a predator. We don't seem to have the context around why Cain's offering was displeasing to God... this is an example of how the Bible answers its own questions as you read the story & learn more about the dynamic between God & the created world. Genesis 3 -- We've begun the foundation of who God is & who we are, but who else is out there? This is the story of a creature whose jealousy of God's love for humankind leads him to manipulate Adam & Eve. Here we see the introduction of a new narrative... what happens when we allow distrust & selfish desire to rule our world?

Genesis Chapter 2:18-25 -- God is with Adam but says it's not good for him to be alone. Clearly, he is not alone without God or the rest of creation, so what does this mean for Adam?

Gen 2:4-17 -- God creates humankind in Eden, represented as paradise in communion with God, yet purposefully creates a choice for the human. Why?
