La corriente poética conocida como Generación del 27, a la que Lorca perteneció, se llamó de ese modo a causa de la conmemoración que este grupo convocó los días 16 y 17 de diciembre de 1927, para celebrar el tercer centenario de la muerte del poeta Luís de Góngora, fallecido en Córdoba, su ciudad natal, en la primavera de 1627. Un homenaje que la Academia había rechazado por considerar a Góngora un poeta delirante cuyo hermetismo estilístico convertía su obra en un magma aburrido e impenetrable.
