About this listen

A deeply personal and revealing Hollywood-survival story.

Lovable child star by age ten, international teen idol by fifteen, and to this day a perennial pop-culture staple, Corey Feldman has not only spent the entirety of his life in the spotlight, he's become just as famous for his off-screen exploits as for his roles in such classic films as Gremlins, The Goonies, and Stand by Me. He's been linked to a slew of Hollywood starlets (including Drew Barrymore, Vanessa Marcil, and adult entertainer Ginger Lynn), shared a highly publicized friendship with Michael Jackson, and with his frequent costar Corey Haim enjoyed immeasurable success as one half of the wildly popular duo "The Two Coreys,"spawning seven films, a 1-900 number, and "Coreymania" in the process. What child of the eighties didn't have a Corey Feldman poster hanging in her bedroom, or a pile of Tiger Beats stashed in his closet?

Now, in this brave and moving memoir, Corey is revealing the truth about what his life was like behind the scenes: His is a past that included physical, drug, and sexual abuse, a dysfunctional family from which he was emancipated at age fifteen, three high-profile arrests for drug possession, a nine-month stint in rehab, and a long, slow crawl back to the top of the box office.

While Corey has managed to overcome the traps that ensnared so many other entertainers of his generation—he's still acting, isa touring musician, and is a proud father to his son, Zen—many of those closest to him haven't been so lucky. In the span of one year, he mourned the passing of seven friends and family members, including Corey Haim and Michael Jackson. In the wake of those tragedies, he's spoken publicly about the dark side of fame, lobbied for legislation affording greater protections for children in the entertainment industry, and lifted the lid off of what he calls Hollywood's biggest secret.

Coreyography is his surprising account ofsurvival and redemption.

Editorial reviews

Editors Select, October 2013 - I admit: I swooned over Corey Feldman as a kid in the '80s and '90s. The bad-boy attitude, raspy voice, the hair - paired with his undeniable charm - skyrocketed him up the Hollywood ladder and into international heart-throb territory by age 15. In this incredibly personal memoir, Corey tears down that veneer and shares what life was really like for him all those years, from his start in the business at age 3 up through the loss of his best friend, the \"other\" Corey, Corey Haim, as an adult. As I listened to Corey tell his story, I was shocked, disturbed and sickened at the abuse he suffered - emotional, physical and sexual, which led to his drug addiction and several suicide attempts - so much so, that at times, I found myself pausing to calm down and reach for more tissues. The writing is lucid and well-paced - and Corey's raw and emotional telling makes for an unbelievably intimate listen. Highly recommended. Jessica, Audible Editor

Honest, Shocking, Sad and Truthfull.

Where does Coreyography rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is one of the best biographies I have read. I grew up in the 80's with Corey's films. He tells an honest and straight forward truth about what went on behind the scenes. It's shocking to know what most people don't realize child stars go though. After reading or "Hearing" this, I realize it starts with their parents. These kids many times aren't protected. I have a great deal of respect for Corey Feldman that he made it through.

This is one of the best I have read because he doesn't hold back. The whole book is punch after punch on events that shaped this man's life. I grew up in LA and always have heard stories but it's shocking when Corey validates it. I hope this book helps others. I hope other kids that are in acting read this.

What other book might you compare Coreyography to and why?

I couldn't compare it to any. I truly felt this was honestly written. I tend to read old rock star biographies and they don't seem as sincere as this. Mostly because they did so many drugs they really don't remember. I think it took a lot of courage for him to write this book. I am sure it was healing to him because I am sure you will never 100% recover from what this man went through.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It was shocking, sad but also brought back memories of my own childhood watching these films as a kid.

Any additional comments?

This is a great book and I highly recommend it. He bears his heart and it's honest. I hope other child stars or parents of future child stars read this book. I grew up in this town and the Hollywood glamour is a big illusion. It's not all bad, but it's not all good.

A story that needed to be told

The man has an incredible story that gives you just the right amount of the stories you want to hear to the hard to listen to stories we need to hear. Excellent and heart breaking.

I love it!

I have always been a fan of his movies. I think this was a very thought provoking book and very well written. In the audible book, it's very easy to hear his emotions as he retells very private details of his life.

Honest Portrayal

If you are a fan of the stars of the 1980's this book takes you there. I loved how honest Corey was and his narration since it gave the book a more personal touch. He loves himself and respects his past, I couldn't be more impressed. I am a fan!

Painstaking, yet fanatically interesting !

First hats off - Major hats off to Corey Feldman! The amount of talent this guy has for producing the voice characters for his audio book was pretty darn amazing... His Michael Jackson voice was eerily spot on was spot on - and the voice of his Jewish grandfather was pretty darn hysterical... this was a definite heart wrenching read. As a child of the 80s, I grew up idolizing Coreys movies the lost boys the goonies gremlins and of course my favorite standby me

This book did not dissapoint.

I have always been a fan of Corey Feldman, and decided to read his book after reading an interview he did on the Pedophilia in Hollywood. His story from day one is very sad; he came from a home where his parents were neglectful when they were not being abusive and after he emancipated himself he had many struggles with drugs, predators, and learning who he was and how to grow up.

That being said, this book was great...his stories from the iconic movies he was in are fun, and even the sad and hard to read parts of this book are told in a way that makes you know things will be okay in the end. While I think Corey will always be a damaged person, I find his continued perseverance to be inspiring...and it has given me a whole new look at his recent today show musical performance.

I highly recommend this book.

"Coreyography" doesn't dance around the subject.

Memoir is my favourite genre, so I took a chance on this book, knowing very little about Feldman other than his having been a child star who'd gotten into drugs. But the good reviews convinced me, and I was not disappointed. I was expecting someone rough around the edges, and perhaps this is so, but his writing is very polished, and his narrating is very clear and expressive. This counts for a lot with me in an audio book. I am sometimes disappointed by authors reading their own work (obviously lacking in training or experience in voice work), but Feldman excels at this. I was highly entertained, considering the dark tone of much of his life, and I applaud him for coming out and sharing his difficult experiences with child abuse. This can't have been easy. You can hear the pain in his voice at times, but it never feels false or gratuitous, nor does it ever detract from the rhythm of the writing. One of the best memoirs I've ever listened to on Audible.

Thank you Corey

Thank you so much. You’re life has helped and informed my own. I was born in 1983, and your honesty and candor really help me look at the trials and abuses of my own life. Thank you. I feel like I have grown up a bit more while also reconnecting with my childhood while listening. Some people have criticized your narration, but the fact that you were able to keep reading through the entire book was so impressive and I could feel the honesty, responsibility, and respect for everyone involved in your life, even the ones who hurt you, it is clear that you cared for. Painful and real. Blessings. Thank you. To other readers, its intimate with a bit of necessary distance and discipline, listening to someone share this intimately.

Great story. Must hear!

Just listen to it. It’s great. Makes me sad about how his childhood and innocence was robbed. Nice to hear Michael Jackson stories.
