About this listen

MacKayla Lane's life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she's your perfectly ordinary 21st-century woman.

Or so she thinks...until something extraordinary happens.

When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death - a cryptic message on Mac's cell phone - Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers.

The quest to find her sister's killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed - a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae.

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister's death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane - an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women - closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac's true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book - because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds.

22?

I can't get around the voice of the narrator .She sounds closer to 50 years old ,its very distracting .I am going to read the hard copy.
It's too bad, she's a good narrator just wrong for this by a mile [or thirty ?]

Great start

Great start to the series. Kept me on the edge of my seat often. Great suspense. Joyce Bean does a great job with the different character voices. Wish she was around for books 4 & 5

Great book but narrator ill suited to main charact

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I read the book version and enjoyed the audio versions of books 4 and 5, but this narrator sounds way too old to portray a 22 year old. It's distracting. She's not a bad reader, but not suited to this book--miscast.

What would have made this romance irresistible?

This book actually isn't a romance, but a paranormal thriller/mystery. I guess because Moning's previous work were romances, the Fever series got lumped in with that category.

Secrets in Ireland

Would you listen to Darkfever again? Why?

No. Probably not. It started kind of slowly...the characters were annoyingly sarcastic, generally unkind, and distrustful of each other the first half of the book. It didn't start to get interesting to me until around the middle.

If you’ve listened to books by Karen Marie Moning before, how does this one compare?

I have not listened to any of her books before.

Have you listened to any of Joyce Bean’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No. I have not heard her narrate another book.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

What life-changing secrets await Mikayla Lane in Ireland?

Any additional comments?

No.

Narrator's accent is REALLY hard take, story good

Is there anything you would change about this book?

Either change the narrator or ask her to stop using/change her accent from a twang hick woman that sounds dumb as heck to a soft southern accent with intelligence. It's insulting to listen to.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Darkfever?

I really enjoy her strong personality. It's refreshing to have a strong female character!

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Either change the narrator or ask her to stop using/change her accent from a twang hick woman that sounds dumb as heck to a soft southern accent with intelligence. It's insulting to listen to.

Do you think Darkfever needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Love this story!

Very good, I couldn’t turn it off. The narrator is a bit distracting. Her southern accent is not very good. But I was too into the story to turn it off. Definitely getting the next in the series.
