About this listen
"While the history books are filled with tales of obsessive visionary geniuses who remade the world in their images with sheer, almost irrational force, I've found that history is also made by individuals who fought their egos at every turn, who eschewed the spotlight, and who put their higher goals above their desire for recognition." The book draws its inspiration from stoicism, the ancient Greek philosophy of enduring pain or adversity with perseverance and resilience. Stoics focus on the things they can control, let go of everything else, and turn every new obstacle into an opportunity to get better, stronger, tougher. As Marcus Aurelius put it nearly 2000 years ago: “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.”

For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Story
What if the smartest people in the world understand something that the rest of us don't? (They do.) What if they know that in order to achieve success, they will sometimes have to do things that others may initially perceive as stupid? The fact of the matter is that the smartest people in the world don't run from stupid, they lean into it (in a smart way). In The Power of Starting Something Stupid, Richie Norton redefines stupid as we know it, demonstrating that life-changing ideas are often tragically mislabeled stupid.

In this edition, Dweck offers new insights into her now famous and broadly embraced concept. Story
For the ancients, everything worth pursuing in life flowed from a strong sense of justice—or one’s commitment to doing the right thing, no matter how difficult. In order to be courageous, wise, and self-disciplined, one must begin with justice. The influence of the modern world often tells us that acting justly is optional. Holiday argues that that’s simply untrue—and the fact that so few people today have the strength to stand by their convictions explains much about why we’re so unhappy.

Easy on the ears, hard on the head
It's a short and tasteful listen.
Ryan's clear pronunciation and calm demeanor make this a very relaxing audiobook. Ryan has the ability to painstakingly break down very complex ideas to the point where I can understand them. With that being said, Ryan's book will certainly cause me to reevaluate many of the actions I have taken in the past while simultaneously making me take a second look at the actions I take moving forward.
This is not a self help book, as Ryan states in the start of the book, but the values and morals behind this audiobook certainly lends ideas that can be directly applied to your everyday life, similar to a self help book.
Thank you Ryan for such a great experience.

Must read for anyone looking to grow
What made the experience of listening to Ego Is the Enemy the most enjoyable?
The topic itself and how Ryan breaks it down. Ryan nailed it with this book. The examples and stories are perfect.
What other book might you compare Ego Is the Enemy to and why?
The predecessor of this book, The Obstacle Is The Way is also a must read. To go through trials and tribulations is part of learning and succeeding and in order to get past it all requires taming your ego.
What about Ryan Holiday’s performance did you like?
He lives and breaths it.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
The book helped fortify similar beliefs and mindsets I previously had and encouraged me to continue down the path I am currently on.
Any additional comments?
I'm buying this book to give to others.

Good message
This book was very monotone, dry, and hard to focus on. It had a very deep insightful message. I’d recommend buying the physical book. Otherwise had a great inspiration. Definitely requires more than one listen to take it all in!

Life changing work by Ryan Holiday
This book is full of so many well researched and carefully cultivated examples of ego creating havoc and tragedy in lives, organizations and even on a national and global scale. Also many great anecdotes that illustrate how ego controlled can result in repeated success and fulfillment. A really wise and inspiring perspective on living.
