About this listen

Jim Dale's Grammy Award-winning performance of J.K. Rowling's iconic stories is a listening adventure for the whole family.

'Welcome to the Knight Bus, emergency transport for the stranded witch or wizard. Just stick out your wand hand, step on board and we can take you anywhere you want to go.'

Close your eyes and enter the magical world of Harry Potter. In these editions, Jim Dale's characterful narration is so entertaining, fun, and theatrical you can almost hear the crackle of the fire in the Gryffindor common room.

When the Knight Bus crashes through the darkness and screeches to a halt in front of him, it's the start of another far from ordinary year at Hogwarts for Harry Potter. Sirius Black, escaped mass-murderer and follower of Lord Voldemort, is on the run - and they say he is coming after Harry. In his first ever Divination class, Professor Trelawney sees an omen of death in Harry's tea leaves... But perhaps most terrifying of all are the Dementors patrolling the school grounds, with their soul-sucking kiss...

Having become classics of our time, the Harry Potter stories never fail to bring comfort and escapism. With their message of hope, belonging and the enduring power of truth and love, the story of the Boy Who Lived continues to delight generations of new listeners.

Better than Harry Potter book 2

I probably sound like a heretic to people who LOVE Harry Potter, but after book two, I had second thoughts about continuing this series. That whole book felt so repetitive. True, it repeated a cool story, but I get bored with that kind of thing. The start of book 3 introduced a funny and despicable new aunt which added freshness to Harry's summer with his aunt and uncle. The middle third of the book did feel a bit repetitive, but still amusing enough. The last third played out the plot of the escaped prisoner who was supposedly trying to kill Harry. This was fast-moving and engaging. As a result, I will soon go on to book 4.

The best book ever!

I love this series. The depth of where this particular story takes the reader, along with the intricate weaving of brilliant magical experiences, brings such fullness that even at the end there are no questions left. And so beautifully, a bit of levity and a good belly laugh closes the last page. Listened all the way through, enjoying the narrator just as equally !!

Loved it

Listening to all these books again, listened to the first 3 in a week and, although I know most people complain about the performance, I’ve grown use to it. He makes the voices fit after a while.

Have you read about this wizard?

Where does Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Book 3 rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

In ranking among the other Harry Potter books I find Prisoner of Azhaban to be towards the middle, but that is more due to story than narration.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Hagrid. You see him becoming more than just the Groundskeeper in this one and it's a delight.

Which character – as performed by Jim Dale – was your favorite?

Hagrid again. I love Jim Dale's voice for Hagrid.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

For the rest of the book it doesn't particularly matter; however, when it comes to the section where they use the Time Turners, I find it most entertaining to listen to that section all at once.

Thoroughly loved and enjoyed

One of my favorite Harry Potter books which introduces my all-series favorite character (Lup), this was a fantastic reading of it! I always live Jim Dale’s narration and one of the most relaxing things for me these days is to just pop in my earbuds or connect my bluetooth speaker and live life with these audiobooks in the background. Can’t explain how much comfort they give me. I think this is one of the most masterfully written isolated books in the series because of the satisfying foreshadowing and mystery-reveals. Of course I have some complaints but none worth mentioning in a review about how beloved it is :)
