Publisher's summary

Think superheroes are tough? Try having one for a boss, or co-worker. That’s the predicament Andrea Vernon finds herself in as the heroine of Alexander C. Kane’s debut audiobook. Drowning in debt, and forced to move back into her parents’ Queens apartment, Andrea starts looking for a job. Luckily for her, she finds herself recruited—well, really kidnapped—by the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection (C.U.P.), an organization that deploys superheroes. Suddenly Andrea must contend with co-workers who can shoot lightning from their fingertips, face the imminent destruction of humanity, and juggle a fledgling romance with a giant lumberjack. It’s all in a day’s work for the would-be novelist turned superstar secretary.

Audible Hall of Fame narrator Bahni Turpin is perfectly cast as a normal person finding herself in abnormal circumstances. Turpin brings to life an entire cast of quirky characters, along with their heroically funny antics in the cubicle next door. If you’ve ever wondered what a genetically altered rhinoceros sounds like, or needed to take a break from your own office drudgery, this is the comedy for you.

Great Narration!

This was a really funny book & the narrator is everything! The end of the book would have been funny regardless of who was reading, but her voices just made the laughter bubble out of me.

Hilarious Story + Terrific Narration

What a combo! The story was great and Bahni Turpin did a fantastic job narrating it.

I started this audiobook a few times before I felt like I was in the mood to listen to it. I figured it would be funny. I didn't expect it to be such an engaging tale with awesome characters. The humor in it had me laughing/snorting from start to finish. The story base is fairly simple but it's so well done! I was definitely swept along by the smart writing and seamless sequences peppered with awkward observations and actions that had me cackling in delight.

This is a story about superheroes and saving the day from potential annihilation. You get a good look into the nitty-gritty details about what it takes to run a hero business. The hiring process, sales, contracts and damage control. A look into the office side of the flashy glory.

It's well done and a total hoot! I had a great time listening to this story.

Great fun!

Very silly. The voice performance was excellent! Goofier than Men in Black. Not as goofy as Despicable Me. You do have to pay attention as the plot starts to flop around. I had to roll back several times because I’d lost my concentration.

Science Fiction Author Kane, Well done

Outstanding first novel. I can't wait til the next one. The story was.... I have no words, It was just that good, from beginning to end. Narration on point. Had me laughing out loud. Loved the southern back home sayings. A southern accent that doesn't sound forced.

Shallow Fun

An okay book with an okay narration. It's fun and whimsical and does not stick around too long, but it contains an unfocused shotgun-blast of silly ideas and a cast that are more caricatures than real people (even the non-supers). For some reason, I feel like AV&CUP would have been better off as an episodic podcast or animated series.

A Funny Superhero Tour Through NYC

l loved the story, Andrea and the Big Ax, the CUP sups, and bouncing around NYC. I want to give Cuppy a good belly rub and a scratch on his head. I am expecting a good read on Andrea's next big adventure in Europe.

Humorous story for Superhero Assistant

Andrea Vernon and the Corporation for UltraHuman Protection is a funny stroll through a classic save the world story as told by an administrative assistant to a superhero corporation. Although its Douglas Adams-like, it is not quite the same style but of course shares the common bond of interjecting humor all throughout the story. Funny and entertaining. Enjoyed it to the end.

So much fun!

I used a credit on this on a whim thanks to a glowing review in an Audible email, and I’m so glad I did! The bureaucracy of corporate superherodom was a fun switch from the usual superhero story, and the narrator was absolutely perfect. I suspect there will be a sequel, and I can’t wait!

I’m surprised I liked this one!

Light humor isn’t usually my thing. I mean, I love to laugh, but when everything about a book is billed as “light” it doesn’t usually have enough plot to keep my attention. This book is NOT deep and stays really truly light throughout, but it was cute! It even made me laugh out loud once.

And I’m not even a big fan of superhero stories! Maybe that’s what made this slight spoof of them work for me.

The narrator is good, and one of the reasons I took a chance on this book. At first she seemed a bit dry during the 3rd person portions, but that highlighted the many characters’ voices, and there are a bunch to keep straight, so now that seems well planned.

So make no mistake, this is total fluff, but sometimes that’s what you’re in the mood for. Don’t expect it to be deeper than you guessed by reading the blurb ‘cos it’s not! Think "sit-com" not "action/drama." But if you just need to chill, it’s worth a listen. You might even giggle.
