Story
In weeks after the September 11 attacks, 18-year-old Mansoor Adayfi was kidnapped by Afghan militia and sold to US forces for bounty money. After months of interrogations, he was sent to the US military prison at Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, as one of its first prisoners. Like the nearly 800 other men imprisoned at Guantanamo, Adayfi didn’t know why he was imprisoned or for how long. He had never seen a skyscraper and couldn’t imagine what the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center looked like, much less how they were destroyed.

When Michael Lewis first met him, Sam Bankman-Fried was the world’s youngest billionaire and crypto’s Gatsby. CEOs, celebrities, and leaders of small countries all vied for his time and cash after he catapulted, practically overnight, onto the Forbes billionaire list. Who was this rumpled guy in cargo shorts and limp white socks, whose eyes twitched across Zoom meetings as he played video games on the side? In Going Infinite Lewis sets out to answer this question, taking listeners into the mind of Bankman-Fried.

For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Experience a bold take on this classic autobiography as it’s performed by Oscar-nominated Laurence Fishburne. In this searing classic autobiography, originally published in 1965, Malcolm X, the Muslim leader, firebrand, and Black empowerment activist, tells the extraordinary story of his life and the growth of the Human Rights movement. His fascinating perspective on the lies and limitations of the American dream and the inherent racism in a society that denies its non-White citizens the opportunity to dream, gives extraordinary insight into the most urgent issues of our own time.

Story
It took me a lifetime to have the courage and the clarity to write my memoir. I want to tell the story of the moments - the ups and downs, the triumphs and traumas, the debacles and the dreams - that contributed to the person I am today. This book is composed of my memories, my mishaps, my struggles, my survival, and my songs. Unfiltered. I went deep into my childhood and gave the scared little girl inside of me a big voice. I let the abandoned and ambitious adolescent have her say, and the betrayed and triumphant woman I became tell her side.

Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Every one of us fears the things that go bump in the night. We’re told tales of happenings when evil is conjured or footsteps are heard while alone in a dark house. But those are just stories, right? What would we do if those fears became an intense reality we could not escape? On the night of November 17, 2018, Danielle Leukam went to bed as a newly single mother and nurse from Minnesota. The 3-0 is a thrilling, cat and mouse story that’s based on the true story of the largest police corruption scandal in the history of the New York City Police Department - The Dirty Thirty - It's also a story of bringing a divided community together. The actual events led to the arrest of 33 police officers. The story is set in the 1990’s in the 30th Precinct in Harlem. But the story of “The 3-0” is not just about police corruption. It’s the story of what happens when the social order collapses under the weight of politics, race, fear, drug cartels, illegal immigration, the rights...

Included are true accounts of a power outage that put a young family in the crosshairs of a stranger with ill-intent, a teenager who found herself at the mercy of a pair of would-be kidnappers after being stranded in the middle of the night, a caregiver whose patient may have been more than she seemed, a young girl whose friends turned out to be her worst enemies, a case of mistaken identity that ...

Eye opening account of a closed society
The writing is very good. The story is heart wrenching and exposes the abuse behind the curtain. Tragic account of an Amish girl turned triumphant brave woman who loves the truth.

Stunning and disturbing
This is a shocking true account of "acceptable" behavior in the Amish community and if it can happen there, it certainly happens everywhere. This is not a one-off story and I fear it happens commonly, especially in communities where women are subservient. This book is disturbing in that it details how children suffer in silence and how something has to be done to protect the innocence of these girls. It is frustrating that this all goes on and the rapists are protected by the church, somehow blaming God for the actions of pedophiles.
While I am not typically a fan of virtual voice, it was tolerable for the most part. I am sure some of the words were mispronounced but the story is so compelling that it is not a reason to skip this read.

Good story, good length
There is so much abuse in the name of "religion" and it sickens me every time I hear about children being sexually abused/beaten. I didn't realize the Amish were no different than every other cult out there. It's not surprising since they don't ever "change" with the times. They truly believe men are superior and the women are nothing.
Kudos to the woman who escaped and wants to help others. She is very inspiring.

AMISH MEN, ASK FOR FORGIVENESS!
Even though the voice was AI, I enjoyed the narration. it was soothing and comforting. It probably wouldn't work for a crime novel with murder and mayhem, and such, but it was very believable as an Amish woman.

Not a fan of AI narration
This true exposure of what goes on in the Amish community is quite the eye opener! Well written, no holds barred exposé that needed to be told. The narration however, was stiff and mechanical due to the use of technically generated voice. Pronunciations were stiff and awkward, with strange pauses in places.
