Publisher's summary

Like Father Like Son: I said good-bye to my son. But he had one final request - a letter I'll never forget.

"Dear Dad, If you're reading this, it means I'm gone. I had one dream, growing old with Holland. Death won't stop me from providing for my wife. And because you're the best man I know, what I'm about to ask - my last request - I know you'll do. Please take care of Holland. Take her back to California with you. It's a lot - I know. But, I'm placing my most precious possession in your hands. Love, Scott."

Different as Night and Day: I laid my husband to rest....

Scott was my world and my future. His love for me transcended the dimensions of time and space - having made provisions for me in the event of his death. He was after all in a war zone and the odds were high he may not come home. But now I can't help but think about the new man in my life - my husband's father.

Contains mature themes.

Beautiful portrait of resilience & love.

Why is it that so many reviewers are happy to denigrate and disparage the FMC, but never have a word of criticism for the MMC? I, personally, never trust reviews based on high negative emotion like annoyance, impatience, and passionate dislike of a FICTIONAL CHARACTER. Why not be annoyed at the author instead, for how they wrote the book?

Having a long career in mental health, I believe these passionately negative reviewers are probably reacting so strongly because the character triggers feelings of self-hate. We often react strongly to things we don’t like about ourselves when they are reflected back to us in others. I’m not throwing shade here.. I’m no exception, myself.

I urge you to ignore the overly emotional negative reviews that focus only on the FMC, and not the book itself. IMHO, Holland is skillfully written and incredibly likable. She’s smart, resilient, courageous, witty, quirky and memorable.

This is a beautifully written book that realistically portrays the struggles of a grieving wife and father doing their best to survive the pain, to heal, and to turn their faces toward the light again and embrace life moving forward.

I would like to briefly note that anyone who’s upset about a conflicted widow being “wishy washy” has never experienced a profound grief themselves. If they had, they would understand that it’s normal. Survivors guilt is universally common, and manifests itself in indecision about whether it’s okay to move on and be happy again… fearful that doing so dishonors the person who’s passed. This author has a deep understanding of that.

I was intrigued and quite nervous to listen to this audiobook, because it could have been cringey as heck if not handled well by the author. But she struck a perfect balance. I was drawn in and captivated by these characters’ journey from the very beginning all the way to the brilliant ending. It’s my first book by her, but it definitely won’t be the last.

The narrators are both highly talented, and they did a phenomenal job. Teddy Hamilton is one of my favorite male narrators. This was my first audiobook narrated by Charlotte North, and she is now one of my favorite narrators, as well.

If you are experiencing acute grief, this realistic portrayal may be too painful for you. For everyone else, I highly recommend you give it a chance. Definitely worth a credit!

emotionally amazing

from the beginning the story was heart-wrenching and emotional but also relatable in a sense for grief and the loss of someone close and the struggle of every day that goes by without them but that you need to keep going because your life's not over yet. yet had its spicy times and of course an hea. loved listening to these two books back to back.

From a military wife

Truly captivating and relatable for a military spouse. So often we struggle with how to honor/ mourn or move on. This book is able to bring a different perspective to a very hard topic.

Lead Female Character Is SO DUMB

Teddy Hamilton is phenomenal, as usual. Female narrator was alright. But the character herself was just the absolute dumbest b*tch ever. Couldn’t find it in me to feel any sympathy for her, any understanding for her actions, and completely unrelatable.

I was intrigued by the summary but was afraid to listen. Im glad i overcame that fear. Incredible story. There were a few parts i personally could have done without but it all worked towards the storyline. Definitely worth the listen

I'LL TAKE MAVERICK!

I liked the story altho it was a bit long. I definitely did not favor Holland. She is a BI@#H! Poor Maverick... his poor heart... she definitely knows how to truely beat on a good guy. I loved the narration... oh Teddy!!!!!! I'm glad this was a free book. but loving the age gap romance 😍 ❤️

So aggravating

I’m fine with slow burn romance but this one dragged too long. The female MC is constantly blowing hot and cold and so draining. Too many tragedies in one story.

I WANNA SLAP HER

Overall the story draged on to long, and its so frustrating when any character in the story plays this hot and cold game with each other while saying and doing things that hurt. When they both know at the end of the day all they want are each other. In this story its mostly the Female character thats dragging this poor man around by his balls. Teddy and the female narrator did a great job.
