Publisher's summary

Emotions bring color and meaning to our lives, but they can also put us on an exhausting roller-coaster ride that takes us to blissful peak states, the depths of delusion and despair, and everything in between. It is only by learning to relate to our emotions skillfully that we benefit from their richness and glean wisdom rather than letting them control us.

In this book, renowned Buddhist teacher Dzogchen Ponlop Rinpoche leads us through the three steps of his Emotional Rescue Plan. First, Mindful Gap is the practice of creating a safe distance between you and your emotions, which gives you the psychological space to work with their energy. Clear Seeing involves recognizing the bigger picture. Finally, Letting Go is the practice of releasing stressful physical and emotional energy through physical exercise, relaxation, and awareness. With each step, you become increasingly familiar with the inner workings of your emotions, seeing straight to the heart of your anger, passion, jealousy, and pride; even ignorance and fear become transparent. With time and practice, anxiety and doubt give way to trust and confidence.

Excellent in an era of disruptive emotions.

Great book for individuals, partners, families and groups dealing with emotional eruptions. Uses common Western language, so it's teachings are very approachable and easy to follow.

Offers an excellent three step method with some user-friendly workshops that help stop our emotions from being disruptive and allows them to be the creative, infinite, glowing energy that they truly are.

The book is so good that I plan to get paperbacks to share with family (many who are Christians and Catholics). Highly recommend it for those dealing with bipolar disorder, and counselors and psychiatrists - anyone who professionally works with people needing help with their emotions. It should be a #1 best seller.

Although certain intonations by the narrator are a little annoying to me, he has a pleasant voice, and plus I focus on the contents so I think most will find the narration good (there's almost always something about narrations that bother me, but that's just me - like when they add to their tone how they would say it as opposed to how I think the author would say it).

A 3 step ER Rescue Plan

A clearly written process that takes emotions out of the nebulous cloud to allow them to transform. Mindful Gap to create space then Hold Fast with the breath and be curious and finally let them go using the “catch and release” strategy.
