Publisher's summary

Humanity to save. Alien threats to annihilate. Aim your spells accordingly.

Drew and his team are the entire counter-offensive plan against the Naga. He knows that the serpents must be dealt with, but watching the Sidhe forces take the nodes near his old home, and turn them violet, is weighing on him. Even worse than the external threat is the pressing fact that the gathered humans are beginning to fracture into factions with competing desires.

The mana shield over the stadium was supposed to solve every one of their problems. The Naga disagreed, and their frequent skirmishes are ramping up into a constant drain on resources. Drew’s only possible response to the humans, the aliens, and the strange, urban jungle appearing across the Potomac is to increase the count of his own red nodes and build up his strength; all in a race to save humanity.

As tensions rise, Drew wonders more and more if he can solve everything with a well-placed fireball.

Looking forward to book 4

Well I got done listening to it and started over right away.
The book builds on the background and flush’s out the magic system rules. There is plenty of the action and impossible odds we have come to expect. I would say it reminds me of Empire Strikes Back in the story building. A little slow in some parts but undeniably necessary to move the story forward. Great job!
The only negative is Luke sometimes spoke in the wrong character voice but that was rare and he otherwise did a great job as always

Excellent as usual

Another excellent episode. Really enjoying the adventure and the development. I never go into details in my reviews because I think that it can bias a listening experience. So, I'm giving this audiobook the best endorsement I can give. I'm have a credit with book 4's name on it. Oh an Luke Daniels is exceptional as a narrator.

Excellent Book, Excellent Series

I love this series! The characters are interesting and the plot complex. It holds my interest always, the only problem is the wait between books!

need the next book

while I feel like this book was more of a novella then the next book, it gave some interesting build up to the next book. while the plot developed a bit leading to explain the world a little bit. there was very little character development beside the new character that was introduced. there where parts that happened that weren't explained , hoping that comes in the next book. just left feeling like I was missing alot of info.

Great book, fun bloopers

I don't often write reviews, but just wanted to say that Luke's bloopers at the end were hilarious!
Great book and series as well :)

MC doesn't mesh with survivors

Lack of conviction of purpose and wanting to appease the masses has led him down a path where he feels isolated. Alot of characters fit a stereotype that many associate with people. The whole debacle probably coming from allowing political intrigue to spread is suspicious considering the need for Red Mages and making them isolated when in power.

Lots of set up

If you liked the last two you'll like this. I do have one critique for the book as a whole. I wanted more story and character development. There are really good character moments and a cool climax, but other than that I felt like there was a lot of filler. Having said that this book does an amazing job at setting up for the next installment and I'm very excited for that.
