Publisher's summary

A sexy, emotional stand-alone romance from USA Today best seller Ella James, performed by Zachary Webber and Ava Erickson!

I didn't know I was that person. You know - the one who gets the kids. But that's what the will said. June Lawler: legal guardian. All my sister's kids have ever known is San Francisco, but I have to take them back to our family's small-town farm.

The last thing I'm expecting is the dark car rolling down my dirt driveway. The man who steps out of it is as rich as he is rude, and I want nothing to do with him. Even if my traitor body didn't get the message.

***

My little brother was everything to me. Now even his kids are gone. Spirited away to Heat Springs, Georgia - population 298.

They're living on a farm that's on the brink of bank foreclosure with a 26-year-old who didn't finish high school. Nowhereville is not the place for little Mastersons, but I'll get them back.

"June Bug" Lawler is poorer than the red dirt she comes from. It's money she must want, and I've got plenty of that. I've never met a problem that my money couldn't solve. This country girl won't be the first.

Feel Good Story

This was a good Enemies to Lovers story. Due to tragedy June gets her sisters kids, Burke thinks the kids belongs with him as their uncle. June moves them to a small town in Georgia and he wants them to stay in San Francisco. Burke basically declares that he will do whatever he needs to do to get them and June refuses to give in to him. Their hate relationship turns into a friendship and then to love interest. The narration is flawless.

Great book!

I haven't listened to anything by Ella James before, but when it was on the $5 sale I decided to give it a whirl. I am so pleasantly surprised. This was such a great book filled with every emotion imaginable.

June was such a sweetheart. I loved the way she seamlessly slid into the role of guardian for her niece and nephew. Her fierce love for them was evident on every single page and every interaction with them and about them. The kids staying with her was never going to be up for discussion and I liked how much she dug her heels in about that.

Burke was great. I expected him to be horrible, but he ended up being amazing. His little attempts at annoying June in the beginning were pretty funny. I liked that it didn't take him long to come around and that their story and relationship took some time to develop.

I will say I was expecting there to be more about the kids. They were a good focal point in the beginning portion, but then kind of faded into the background midway through. I was expecting there to be more heart to hearts and tears with the kids, but I honestly only got misty-eyed in the first couple of chapters and then it wasn't sad after that. The kids were sweet and it was fun seeing how they adjusted to farm life. I do think Oliver, who is supposed to be 9 was written more like a 6 or 7 year old. It could be because of the way the narrators did his voice, but I think about my son who just turned 10 and Oliver seemed way younger than him.

The narrators were wonderful as usual. Ava Erickson was the perfect cast for June because she has that sweet, melodic type of voice that fits June's personality. She did a pretty good job with her southern accent even though it seemed to fade out a bit towards the end. Zachary Webber was a great cast for Burke and, like he always does, he brought him to life.

Overall, this was a great book. It would appear there's another book in the series and I'm wondering if it's going to be about Leigh. We shall see!

Burke and June appear to be total opposites but...

Burke and June appear to be total opposites but they definitely have two little things in common.

I was drawn into this book from the first sentence and it kept me captivated until the very end.

What starts from a devastating tragedy for all involved becomes their saving grace as well.

June Lawler finds herself as legal guardian of her older sister, Sutton’s two young children, Oliver and Margot. Sutton and her husband, Asher, were in a fatal accident in the San Francisco Bay Area where they lived. Now suddenly because of this tragedy their children are sent to live with their Aunt June in Heat Springs, Georgia...on a farm!

Burke Masterson is Asher’s brother and he’s also going to do everything in his power to make sure his brother’s children don’t go to Georgia to be brought up by an under educated woman he’s never even met...And so the story proceeds. Grab a copy and dive in. There’s so much more to Burke and June then what I’ve divulged above but it’s in your best interest to read this unpredictable story yourself and enjoy the banter between these two stubborn people who are more alike then they ever expected.

I read/listened to this 5⭐️ book. The narration of this story is beautifully done by Zachary Webber and Ava Erickson who truly allow you to feel this story in all its glory.

Loved all of it!

I received an #AdvancedListenerCopy in exchange for my honest review. I thoroughly enjoyed this uplifting story with excellent levels of snark, fun rivalry, next-level flirting & beautiful performances by Ava Erickson and Zachary Webber! This audiobook achieves the difficult task of delivering a story that is not only deep with characters who have experienced devastating loss, but also a healthy dose of humor and a true sense of hope for the future. June and Burke instantly spark strong reactions in each other, resulting in the perfectly delivered witty banter and an unquestionably complicated-yet-powerful attraction. They both want what is best for the children, but start out with very different ideas of what that is.

This is a Love Conquers All story that really tackles some tough obstacles. They are so very different with contradictory backgrounds, upbringings, socioeconomics, and last-but-not-least geographic location (to name a few things). Burke is a strong personality and June handles him brilliantly. She brings out the very best in him and he challenges her in a way that shines the light on how fiercely beautiful she is inside and out. Their delicate dance is beautiful in it's hopelessness as you can feel the undeniable and very messy connection. The physical manifestation when they come together is vivid with tangible need because the performances from two amazing voice actors transport you into the story. I highly recommend moving this perfectly performed and beautiful story higher up on your listening list!

Hate You Not

Sometimes book get you right in the feels and this was one of those books for me.
I think anytime someone loses someone they love your always going to get an emotional story.
Both these characters are grieving and they don’t bring out the best in each other until they see that they are both grieving their loved ones.

Burke from the get go had a chip on his shoulders, I had to laugh at the first time he meets June because boy oh boy does she put him in his place. It was a HOOT I tell ya.

The fact that June was so awesome and didn’t let Burke’s attitude get to her she knew without a doubt that what her sister did was right for all involved and she didn’t get scared that Burke and his piles of money were going to swoop in and take.

The love story in this book was perfect I like that it took time and that they got to know each other before the feeling got involved. It felt genuine, real like that could actually happen.
Once you get to know Burke you see there is deeper pain, and his story broke my heart. The way June just listens and is exactly who she is I feel like that helped Burke be able to open up and share his truth that has been eating him alive.

The narration, thank you for getting narrators that can do the accents RIGHT. I love the way June speaks and that is just a part of who she is and having a narrator get it enriches the story. I am a fan of Zachary & Ava.

Beautiful story. 🌟

I like the story development. I believe this could have been longer and i wouldn’t tire of it. The ending was wrapped up a little too quickly for me. A credit well spent.

The right amount of everything

This book had the balance of elements that make a nice romance plot. The steamy scenes were pretty steamy, but with just the right frequency to make it hot and not smutty. The whole lust/infatuation/love didn't happen in mere days or weeks but had time to mature at a natural pace instead. The drama was also spread during different stages, skipping the cliché that inevitably drags out at about 2/3 of the book. And the reasoning behind the lives of the main characters was also doled out at strategic parts of the plot. All and all, it was a very enjoyable read.

Burke & June🥰

“We met through tragedy and started off as enemies. But then we won each other’s hearts...”there is so much more to Burke & June’s story. They’ve both suffered through devastating personal tragedies but ultimately choose love for themselves.

As a girl from the south I can honestly say that Ava has just the right amount of southern for June:) her twang, cadence & attitude are spot on! And Zachary is dreamy as always. He adds just the right amount of tortured hero to Burke.
