Publisher's summary

A sharp and scintillating summer novel that will make listeners laugh out loud and cry happy tears from the New York Times bestselling author of Yours Truly.

Justin has a curse, and thanks to a Reddit thread, it's now all over the internet. Every woman he dates goes on to find their soul mate the second they break up. When a woman slides into his DMs with the same problem, they come up with a plan: They'll date each other and break up. Their curses will cancel each other’s out, and they’ll both go on to find the love of their lives. It’s a bonkers idea… and it just might work.

Emma hadn't planned that her next assignment as a traveling nurse would be in Minnesota, but she and her best friend agree that dating Justin is too good of an opportunity to pass up, especially when they get to rent an adorable cottage on a private island on Lake Minnetonka.

It's supposed to be a quick fling, just for the summer. But when Emma's toxic mother shows up and Justin has to assume guardianship of his three siblings, they're suddenly navigating a lot more than they expected—including catching real feelings for each other. What if this time Fate has actually brought the perfect pair together?

My new favorite book

Abby's books are always amazing! They are unique in the story, where other authors tend to be repetitive with their themes. Also, a lot of humor, fun, and tears. I never get tired of Zachary Webber and his story telling. There are Easter eggs from previous books- so have some knowledge of those books, is good, but not necessary for this book. There are so many great things in this book, the characters, the symbolism (Abby discusses that in this audiobook after the epilogue in her q&a, so don't miss it). This will definitely be a re-listen for me. Thanks for always writing such great stories!

Zach Webber stays slaying Abby heroes

Oh my god this was so EFFING GOOD!!! I listened to the audiobook and the performance of both narrators was fantastic (Zach Webber stays slaying Abby heroes) and I highly recommend!

Just for the Summer had all the swoony romcom vibes but also dealt with deeper emotional issues like childhood PTSD and a loved one going to prison. Abby dances between light and dark topics effortlessly, and it makes her characters seem so real it feels like I know them.

Justin was such a sweet bebe and I loved how he and Emma just fit together from their first interaction. He was so sweet to her and did the thing where he takes care of her because she takes care of everyone else 😭😭 I love him so much.

I highly recommend reading Yours Truly and Part of Your World before Just for the Summer because there are a bunch of character cameos from both books—and Abby connects a lot of threads between them all.

Love this book love Abby go read it!

Such a beautiful, heartbreaking/warming story

I absolutely loved this book. It made me cry and laugh. I could not stop listening! I loved the characters. I loved that this was a love story, yet it was so much more about trauma and heartbreak. This has made my top 5 favorite books list.

Abby does it again…and her books keep getting better!!!

I absolutely love Abby’s writing style and love listening for the little Easter eggs connecting a new story to her previous books. I connected very much to two of the stories in this book-the girl with an absent, narcissistic mother with mental health issues AND the woman who loses her husband (which causes major mental trauma for her) then acts out in a self-destructive manner after the fact. I was both of them in my lifetime. I laughed, grinned bigger than the Cheshire Cat, cried, and got very introspective during this story…and I loved every minute of it! Thanks for another amazing read, Abby. I can’t wait for the next book.

such a happy cover with such a sad story 😭😭

Abby Jimenez does it again!! I was getting so frustrated with Emma but then i had to rmr why she is the way she is. Justin was just a little too perfect for me lol like yes he had all his family problems but none of that was his fault. I want more cute happy moments pls i’m dying for them. And Neil rly surprised me?!?

Abby hits another home run

When Emma reads a post on Reddit about a guy who has a curse (everyone he dates goes on to find the love of their life after they break up) she's surprised. After all, the same thing happens to her. Encouraged by her best friend, who has already done an FBI-grade search on the guy and approves of him) she messages Justin. They hit it off and soon Emma decides to switch her next assignment as a traveling nurse to Minnesota, where Justin lives, instead of Hawaii. They're having the best time texting and FaceTiming and they agree to date in order to cancel each other's curses. Just for the summer. But their worlds are turned upside down when Emma's toxic mother returns and Justin suddenly becomes guardian of his siblings. The circumstances are against them, but what if they were actually meant for each other?
Another audiobook by Abby that I listen to in one sitting! Justin is absolutely adorable with his witty messages, exit questionnaires and date invites. Emma breaks our hearts with everything she has been through and how she still "chooses empathy". They are both going through traumatic experiences but at the same they are clicking so perfectly that your heart breaks when you see that their journey to each other will be hard and painful. The book has cute laugh out loud moments but Abby always makes you tear up too.
Though a standalone, it's pretty much connected to Part Of Your World and Yours Truly and you'll love it even more if you read those. We catch up with many beloved characters!
Narration: Beautifully narrated by Christine Lakin and Zachary Webber. They'll make you cry, laugh and they will break your heart. I highly recommend the audiobook!

Enjoyable

I'm a diehard fan of Abby Jimenez but found this one a lot more sappy and predictable than her other novels. There are some great moments and fun Easter eggs tying in her other storylines but at the end I was sort of bummed that was all.
